The vertical IC has failed. Open up the back and look for a small flat IC attached to a heatsink. It should have about 11 pins or so and be marled LA3847 or something similar. First try resoldering the pins as it is common for the connections here to go bad. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the IC.

Keep us posted.

What is the cause of my 14inch videocon crt tv appears only a single vertical line in the middle

The image on a CRT TV is produced by a beam of electrons which is controlled by a magnetic field to move the beam top to bottom and left to right. A single line suggests that the vertical deflection is working but not the horizontal deflection (left to right). There are a number of components associated with this and requires a competent TV repair engineer to fix. Better to to buy a new TV!

TV has a great picture but wont "hold it". Keeps going to a single flat horizontal line across the middle of the screen. Tapping on side of TV used to bring it back but now, nothing. Just a line.

Vertical scan output section circuit fault. Absence of vertical scan causes the single horizontal line on screen. Horizontal scan output section is OK. Contact any service technician to troubleshoot the vertical scan output section circuit. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Horizontal line fault to CRT based TVs are given.

No image in my screen

When you ask for help, give make and model number. In this case, if display is a CRT type (cathode ray tube, not LCD), then a horizontal single line in the center of the screen indicates a lack of vertical deflection. If it is a vertical line in the center of the screen, it is a lack of horizontal deflection. Both problems can be caused by any number of components, all internal, and requires a technican to repair. Only getting vertical lines on screen..no picture

Tell me are they Verticle lines or verticle LINE. If it is one line, either yoke( a coil kept at the neck of the tube).A yoke has two coils for Vertical and Horizontal for deflections. When the Horizontal deflection coil is opened you get a vertical line which is a single bright line. There another small linear coil on the board connecting the horizontal coil of the yoke. This is a simple fault and tracing is very easy and not expenssive.Only if the yoke is open, it might be bit costly. And that is a rare case.

H line problem

I think you are describing 'no vertical deflection.' If all you have on the screen is a single horizontal line, the vertical deflection circuit (or IC) has died. Unless you have service documentation on hand, I can't give a part number to replace but this is typically not an expensive failure and if the set was OK before, it is worth having repaired.

JVC 27" CRT TV AV-27BP3 display shows single horizontal line

I have a similar problem on my CRT computer monitor (AcerView 76c). It is an old screen and I think it is just at the end of its life, much like your TV. Having some background in physics, I would be pretty sure that the problem is with the cathode ray tube's vertical deflection system. The horizontal deflection electrodes are working while the vertical one is not. This results in a display of a single horizontal line (or in my case, a few superimposed) in the centre of the screen. Where both X and Y (horizontal and vertical) deflectors fail then the electron gun firing would result in a single bright spot in the dead-centre of the screen.

So really, we have no choice but to move on and buy a new set as repair is probably just as, if not more, expensive than replacement with a new device. Seeing as your post was in 2007, I hope you managed to solve the problem.

Best wishes,
SZ (Sydney, AUS)

TV - only single, linear image with sound

vertical line on the screen is due to problem in horizontal deflection coil circuit

plz check

  • connector loose which is going to deflection coil mounted on crt.
  • loose contact or print break from flyback to def.coil.
  • capacitor defective going to deflection circuit.
  • if you are not tech person call tech. to fix it
  • it is not a major problem & can be fixed at your home.
  • hope this will help.
  • good luck.
