I am having trouble connecting my lexmark printer a my vista laptop. I do not have the cd anymore so please help me if there is a way?

Lexmark has the drivers and full software for supported OS versions on their site: http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=EN&page=product&userlocale=EN_US&productCode=LEXMARK_X1270&focusedTab=DOWNLOADS#1 . Select your version of Vista (32- or 64-bit) and then click Filter.

Click on the link and the download page should pop up. Click on Download at the bottom of the pop-up window.

If you allowed the Add New Hardware wizard to search for the drivers, disconnect the data cable and then uninstall any driver that was found. Restart your computer. Reconnect the data cable and cancel all Add New Hardware screens that open. Then run the exe that you downloaded from Lexmark.

I hope this helps.

(Note: the download probably doesn't include third-party software that may have been on the original CD.)

Type msiexec =?, click Ok
A window would come up which would show the windows installer version
If there version is less than 4.5 then download and install the latest version

P1005 hp printer windows vista will not recognise

hmmmm i would first make sure all window vista driver are in first. then try installing the cd. or if you want to try the driver only and not all the extra software...

1st uninstall the driver and software and do not connect the printer. until it asks you.

2nd put the factory cd for the printer but do not let it run automatically. cancel the installation.

3 you go to the control panel add printer, etc. have look for the driver and say "have cd" or go to the cd drive where the vista folder is holding the driver file.

i know this can be tidious but its kinda old school for installing a driver instead of letting the cd do it automatically have the computer find the driver on the cd first. dont add all the extra software. try it and see if it works then try to add all the extra software.

personaly i think sometimes the vista updates stuff where it screws with the drivers and then your computer does not know what its looking for. i hope this kinda helps. sorry for your mishap.

have you also tried connecting to all the usb slots?

Is this not compatible with vista>:

Yes, there is a Vista driver available for your printer.

Go to:

http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/downloads/downloads.cgi

Enter your model # in the Search by Model box. When the gray model number appears, click on it.

You will then be take to a page to select your operating system. Select Vista.

(Note: There are 2 types of Vista...32 bit and 64 bit. You need to select the proper one. To verify what you have: Right click on the Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. A window will open and it will say 64-bit in the window if it is. If it doesn't say 64-bit you will select
Vista. If it is 64-bit you will select Vista x64)

Once you select your OS, you will be taken to another page to download the driver. Click on Download Now.

Save the file to your Desktop. When the download is complete, make sure all other printer software is uninstalled. Turn your printer ON. Connect the USB cable. If your get a New Hardware Found window, cancel it out. Then Run (double-click) the file you downloaded on the Desktop.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Unable to install printer

Step one: Determine the appropriate compatible driver

Since there is no driver for the deskjet 656, the hp site says the alternative driver would be for the deskjet 660c. There is no need to download it as it comes with Vista, but we will need to install and configure it.

Here are some directions:

Step two: Install the driver

1. Verify that the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable is not connected to the printer.

2. Click the Windows icon ( start ), click Control Panel , click Hardware & Sounds , and then click Printers .

3. Click Add a printer .

4. Click Add a local printer .

5. Select the Use an existing port check box.

6.In the Use an existing port drop-down list, select LPT1: (Printer Port) , and then click Next .

7. Under Manufacturer on the Install the printer driver dialog box, select HP .

8. Under Printers , select the appropriate alternate driver for the printer (in your case, the 660c) , and then click Next .

9. In the Printer name text box, type the printer name, and then click Next . The printer driver starts to install.

NOTE: The name of the alternate driver displays as the default name. Change this name to the name of your printer, if desired.

10. After the computer displays a message that the printer was successfully added, connect the USB cable to the printer and to the computer.

11. On the Found New Hardware screen, click Cancel .

NOTE: If multiple pop-up windows display, click Cancel on each window.

Step three: Configure the driver

1. In the printer folder, right-click the name of the printer, and then click Properties .

2. Click the Ports tab.

3. Change the port from LPT1 to USB

4. Click Apply .

Step four: Print a test page

1. Click the General tab.

2. Click Print Test Page .
