The air conditioner cools the room but it shuts of. The power light doesn't come on while unit is on. Can I replace the plug?

Where can I get a replacement plug?

  • Anonymous Jun 04, 2011

The unit never powered off before. The unit would stay on as long as it was powered on. Since the power light isn't working, now it powers off and stays off.

It is suppose to shut off but should turn back on. If it's working properly but the indicator light does not come then it is a bad indicator light.

"The air conditioner cools the room but it shuts of." -- Temperature reached, but does not turn back on automatically? Stops short of reaching temperature? Shuts off for a period, but will come back on only to shut off again later?
Most importantly, how do you get it to turn on again?
"The power light doesn't come on while unit is on." -- If the unit is on and the power light is not, then the power light must not be operating (is burnt out).
Actual answer: "Can I replace the plug?" -- Of course you can.
What is causing you to feel that the plug needs replaced?
:o).

A replacement plug can be purchased at a hardware store.

I think I understand what you are saying: The A/C unit operates for a period of time, then the plug switches itself off and you need to push the reset button on the plug to turn the unit on again. If this is the case, then there may be a problem with the A/C unit. Make sure that the water which the A/C unit produces (condensate) is capable of leaving the unit (dripping through holes to the outside). If I could not find any reason why the unit should be shorting out internally, and it was my unit, then, against ALL safety standards, I would put a regular plug on it. It it was for a customer, I would test it through another GFI.

Cooling doesn't stay on

The outside and inside coils may need cleaning. Clogged coils cause excess pressures and heat of the freon that can cause safety switches to shut er down. Eveen a faulty power relay in the outside unit.Otherwise you may need a serviceman to locate the cause.

Your going ot have to shut it down and let it deice. remove the filter and replace it or wash it out . this might take a few hours so leave the indoor fan on it will speed thing up a bit. also set the temp to mid range and close all unused rooms off it has to cycle a bit but really my money is a dirty filter and ice.

Everstar mpm2-10cr-bb6 will not reset on power cord. light on reset doesn't light. seems like no power is getting to the unit.

Check the outlet that the unit is plugged into, to be sure that it is in fact, working. The circuit breaker in your home's circuit breaker panel for that outlet, may have tripped. Also, the outlet may have interior damage or a loose wire connection. If the unit seems not to be getting power, one of the above is the problem. Try plugging the unit into another outlet in a different room.

Hope this helps you troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Hello, I can assist you.

If the unit is supposed to turn off and it doesn't, it will be necessary to check several things.

  • First, is the unit cooling properly? See the section entitled "The air is cool but doesn't seem cold enough."

  • Next, is the temperature of the room adequately cool? If the room temperature is cold enough try setting the thermostat to a higher temperature. If the unit then seems to work properly leave the thermostat set to the higher temperature.

  • If the unit is cooling properly when it is turned on and the room is not cool enough the problem is probably that the unit is trying to cool an area that is too large for its capacity. Use the following chart to find the appropriate size air conditioner to use:

AREA TO BE COOLED / CAPACITY (BTU/HR)

100 to 150 square feet = 5,000

150 to 250 square feet = 6,000

250 to 300 square feet = 7,000

300 to 350 square feet = 8,000

350 to 400 square feet = 9,000

400 to 450 square feet = 10,000

450 to 550 square feet = 12,000

550 to 700 square feet = 14,000

700 to 1000 square feet = 18,000

If the room is heavily shaded, reduce needed capacity by 10%

If the room receives a lot of direct sun, increase needed capacity by 10%

Add 600 Btu/Hr for each person in the room if there are more than two people

If the unit is for a kitchen, increase the capacity by 4,000-6,000 Btu/Hr.

If the room size is too big for the air conditioner you have two possible choices. Either decrease the room size by shutting some doors or partitioning off an area of the room. Or, increase the BTU of the air conditioner for that room by installing a different air conditioner with a higher BTU rating.
