Question about Computers & Internet

The Memorex 16x-DD6-IN 1A that came with the Dell XPS I bought 3 years ago, has never worked. Dell tried to fix it through telephone call ins, but never got the thing to work. The three year warrenty ran out last May. I tried to get them to send me a new one, but got the runaround till thay no longer had to. Now I have a new Canon digital movie camera, the S100, and it shoots in a format which I still have not found out what it is, and going to the Canon web site was no help and I need to burn a DVD-RW and I need the Memorex to burn it on. Have tried many free software downloads from the internet that change the format of CD's and DVD's, to some other format. None of then worked and most have a banner in the middle of the picture, that rinders the change useless. Sent Canon an email, to find out what the foremat is that the camera shoots in. Right now, I would spend up to $50 on a software program that would do what I want it to do and I still need to get my DVD burner fixed. The programs I have used would find the Memorex, but the burner will not except the change from one format to another. Would it be cheaper to buy a new burner than try to fix the one I have?

Doing a quick search on the camera you mention, the results show that this camera has been discontinued a few years ago, it does not shot movies, the pictures are in JPEG format which can be read and veiwed by any computer.

Are you sure you got the right camera model - is this it?

As for your drive, are you able to insert an audio disc and listen to music, or insert a software disc and install software?

If you can then you probably just need the correct software to burn a cd or dvd.

Software worth trying is - Nero Suite or Ashampoo burning Suite, which can be bought from any good PC retailer.

Both suites will enable you to create a dvd or cd with video and or pictures for viewing on a consumer dvd player.

Hope this helps.

Given the fact that you have dealt with this issue for three years and spent probably countless hours trying to resolve it - YES. Buy another drive, which will come with software that will operate the drive properly. Just make sure to check for compatibility with your camera. In the long run you will save a fair amount of money, a lot of time, and incalculable headaches!

If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. My daugther bought a Dell xps 200 at a yard sale over a year ago and she has never been able to log onto it because it has an administrator password on it and it won't allow you to do anything without it. ...

Please check site below. You can disable the motherboard password via a jumper settings.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/SYSTEMS/xps200/sm/techov1.htm
If the administrator password you are telling about is for windows, then you just have to reformat the hard disk and install the operating system you want.

I bought an xps 210 2 years ago. The power supply is dead

It is possible that you picked up a faulty power supply, slim, but possible. Chances are pretty good that you have one of your components drawing too much current on your power supply. The largest power drain comes from your processor and the graphics accelerator cards, however it could be a faulted motherboard or hard drive. You can replace your power supply with a larger capacity unit from a known good manufacturer. If you increase the wattage capability and look with the side off to see if any component is generating a lot more heat than usual. A larger capacity power supply should be able to handle the unusual current draw.

CD BURNING

This sounds like a dirty CD Drive, you can purchase a CD Drive Cleaner from most electronic stores that sale blank CD's. Maxell and Memorex are good blank CD brands. In addition make sure you are storing the CD's in a dry, dust free area, also make sure after using the CD Cleaner that there isn't any dust or debri. Keeping the drive free and clear of dirty will help with performance, if this does not help the last resort would be to replace the CD drive.

1) Do not pay attention to speed burning, in my opinion the slower the better.

2) the burner may be dusty, buy a dry dvd lens cleaner and use it.

3) try other media like Verbatiom or Teac and compare results.

4) the lifespan of any burner (depends on use) is about 18 months (my nec 7170-AD stopped working after 10 months), you may have exeded the life span of your burner, replace with new one.
