I have the same problem. A 3 year old got a hold of my camera tonight, and ended up dropping it on the floor. The lens is jammed in on one side, and I couldn't get it to work right again. It gives the lens error message as well. Just wondering if anyone has found a simple solution to this problem, or if it needs a repair shop (I was concerned because Im not in an area with a shop nearby).

I suggest you call Nikon Support and ask them to replace your lens motor. If your under warranty, you might as well get a replacement. Otherwise, you can ask a repair shop to replace your lense.

My lens is stuck out and it will no longer take pictures. It is brand new!

The lens has either been hit, dropped against something, or the camera allowed to turn on while in a pocket/purse/case. The lense drive gears are plastic and not entirely substantial and require care - which most people especially teens and 20's don't give them. Once in this condition, they're done for. You can attempt to contact Fuji for repair, but you'd be responsible for the cost unless they're feeling especially nice that day, since there's simply no way for the lense to become jammed during normal operation - unless the lens is bumped or hit while open.

Since these camera require total disassembly, from the back forward, to get to the lense assembly, it'll be cheaper or near it to replace it than to repair it. Take it as lesson learned, and treat the next one with more care. NEVER touch the lense when open, NEVER allow it to bump anything, NEVER drop it, NEVER place it in your pocket or purse unless the power button is protected from being accidentally turned on.

Camera got dropped now it won't turn on.

The only way to sort it properly is to dismantle and reassemble. Because it has sustained damage you will have to check for any internal damage caused by the drop. Now the lens is jammed open would suggest the guide pins have either come out of their slots preventing movement or something is obstructing them.

Camera will shut off then the shutter will close

Yes it could. It is possible a small dirt get on the side of the lense and it prevents the lense to close all the way in. Clean it up and while turning the camera off, push the lense in. Not too hard. You might have to repeat the step a few times. Do not drop your camera, if you did make sure you clean the sides of the popped off lense. If they did not help, some mechanical part of the lense is shifted or broken.

Good Luck

Dropped camera now it will not power up or anything battery is charged

You probably blew a fuse. Maybe the lens jammed and the motor could not overcome the jam so it shut itself down to protect itself. I dropped my first camera, under AMEX warranty and it came back with 3 fuses repaired, no physical damage-just wouldnt turn on.

Make sure the lense is not bent. If so, gently straighten it. This worked with mine.
