I just got att dsl service. I have four green lights on the modem and wireless is working. I can access wireless on my phone and laptop in the house. When I open IE, all I get is "cannot display the page" message. I have tried the "diagnostics" tool and the response is limited or low connectivity. Would appreciate any help you might provide.

Hi,

Improve the Fixya.com experience for everyone by voting!

The solution I'm suggesting works in my business (LAN installations) about 95% of the time. I trust that it will work for you.

Let's see if I can help you.

Begin by turning on your computer and your router

? Open Internet Explorer;
? Click on 'Tools';
? Click on 'Internet Options';
? Click on 'Connections';
? Click on 'Setup'
? Click on 'I want to set up my Internet connections manually . . .';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'I connect through a local area network (LAN);
? Clock on 'Next'
? Click on 'Next' [This is not an error];
? Click on 'No';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'To connect to the Internet immediately . . .; and,
? Click on 'Finish'.

That should have you online

All the best

Ben

Have you tried to reset router. It has to be done in order.
1. unplug router
2. unplug modem
3. shut down computer and restart after waiting 1 min
4. after restarting computer plug power back into modem and wait for all the lights to start blinking
5. after the modem is working plug power back to router and plug in the computer with ethernet cable and make sure you have internet,
6. try to link up with wireless,
If this does not work you will have to setup the router for wireless if it is att wireless you will have to call them to give you the password to set it up.

ATT is your high speed internet provider and they supply you with 2wire DSL modem which has alot of power supply adapter going bad (you can Google 2wire AC dapter problem).
You can buy your own DSL modem but the key is the setting it up, it depends on how your ATT DSL system is setup, DHCP, PPOe, etc. What ever you do I hope you do have the user name and password that you may need to setup the new modem.
To explain exactly how here will take many many words and pages to explain, and without knowing your exact setup, it will be real difficult.
ATT does not care if you use your own DSL modem but they will not help you setting it up.
I would suggest you to get someone at school that knows a lot about computer, may be aks your school IT person to see if he/she can help you for free pizza.
I hope my explanation will help you out.

My 2wire has the power light red and the ethernet green and th wireless solid green and the dsl off and the internet off....what can i do

I had the same problem on the Gateway 2701HG-B supplied from ATT for use with their DSL service. From searching the web, I learned these variety of modems apparently have an expiration date on the power cord at about 18 mos to 2 years. Mine is almost exactly at 2 yrs.

I replaced the power cord and now it works fine. You can order the OEM replacement from att e-store or try Radio Shack for a universal cord.

Can I use AT&T 2WIRE 2701HG-B DSL to ant ISP?

look if u wish to go for verizon service,,they will provide u with a wireless modem as well,,but if u tell them that u hav a modem then they might configure this modem only,,both ATT and verizon are DSL service providers with PPPoE connections.the only thing u need is the username and passwrd from verizon which u have to setup on the first page of the 2wire setup page,,both the connections are dhcp based.so no other connection settings change required.But when u talk with verizon make sure u tell them of the 2wire modem

Moreover verizon has wireless broadband service which is actually a express card tat u have to put into your computer and u can go online anywhere u go within ur country{it works like a mobile phone}

best of luck,,keep me posted

A friend gave me old 2Wire 1701HG wireless modem/router. It didn't come with power cord, cables etc. I found a 4.5V cord from old walkman that worked. Anyway, have ATT DSL service with speedstream 4100...

That would seem to be AT&T's favorite house brand...
Me thinks the SpeedStream was their SLOWEST
"DSL"

"2wire" was their next iteration of SLOW "DSL"

Yes... You will need to contact THEM ... or whom-so-ever is your INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (ISP)...

As I recall... the PRICE DIFFERENCE from one
service to the other was about $10 per month.

Give them your pirated modem number and they
will need to register it as a digital subscriber
in order for you to gain internet access.

Need router or modem for ATT DSL 6.0

Hi,
Your laptop has got a modem built in, but it is intended for dial up 56Kbps, not DSL. So they are both right. But if you want to use a DSL internet service you will need to buy either a DSL router or modem. You should not need to buy bothas the router will have the modem built in. Your ISP may have a prefered model and will probably sell you one at a fairly cheap price or you can get one from your local PC world. If you only have the one Laptop at home you can buy either the router or the modem. The modem will probably be cheaper. But for around $60 you can buy a router I prefer wireless. This will allow you around 4 connections and more importantly frees you up from having to be directly and closely connected and allows you to work in various places around the home without trailing cables everywhere. Your ISP will advise you on the settings you require. I advise you to enable all the security options on any wireless devices. I hope this was useful.

2701HGB modem - dsl light flashes red

if all the lights on the modem are Green then it means there's no prob with the hardware. just make sure that you're going to use the right WEP key or wireless password. the network name is 2wirexxx, the X is the the last 3 numbers of the SN which can be found on the bottom of your 2wire 2701HG-B.make sure that your wireless switch is also turned on of course. the wireless light on the modem will lit if it is connected

Help please

you can go to any wi-fi locations near your area and access the internet on your laptop. I think AT&T offers wi-fi access to its members on any of its designated hotspot /wifi locations (nearly 15,000 company-owned & roaming) e.g. McDonald's, Barnes & Noble bookstores, leading airports, coffee shops, etc. you can visit att.com and login to your account to find more details.
or call them at: 1-888-888-7520

you don't need to install any software/ dsl installation on your laptop when you are using a public wi-fi connection, just ensure that your computer firewall is on and take precautions when sending out any personal info online.
