If you no longer have the manual, you might be able to download it from these sites;

www.retrevo.com

www.safemanuals.com
Obviously, you will need to supply the make model that you didn't include here.

Display shows SAFE, and vcr doesnt turn on.

You simply need to press and hold down the power button on your remote for 6-7 seconds. Doing this will take the VCR out of safe mode.

Proscan vcr plus gold stuck in lock

I just had the same problem and found a solution on the internet that worked. Hopefully you still have the VCR's remote control. Press and hold either the on/off, VCR1 or VCR2 button on the remote. I pressed the VCR1 button and held it for about 5-7 seconds. It released the lock and worked fine afterwards. The lock is some kind of childlock devise.

Poor recording at start of tape

Hello. This kind of sounds like the loading deck is a few teeth out of time. In other words the tape is not fully dropping down. When the drives start pulling at it the first few minutes of playing it probably seats down a little further and a little further until it finally bottoms out and seats correctly. This I have seen before. The timing issue can result from pushing a tape in a little hard at times instead of letting the loader pull it in itself after it makes its first switch. At some point the loading deck went out a tooth or two and has remained that way ever since. Putting one of these loading decks back in "time" provided there is not any damage to the loading gears should be handled by someone experienced with this. If your familiar with gearing it would simply be a matter of marking the gears when you "trick it" to load a tape. The metal tape retainer should hit bottom when it drops in. When you start your re-timing process you only go one tooth at a time until you finally get it to hit bottom. You should not go a tooth more because you may cause damage to the main gear or one of the others. Good-luck and hope this helps.

Some tapes will start and immediately shut down

the vcr is on threshold of belt life. try replacing (or cleaning with alcohol) the take-up reel belt. The vcr has a built-in time-out feature to protect the video tape. if it takes too long for things to happen, shut-down occurs.

Mitsubishi HS-U447 VCR in Lock or "Loc" mode

Hopefully you still the VCR. Your's is stuck in "CHILDLOCK" mode. To release the lock you have to have the remote and press the DISPLAY for 8 to 10 seconds.

The purpose of the CHILDLOCK is to prevent others from using your VCR. If you want to set the VCR back on Lock you again press the DISPLAY for 8 to 10 seconds.

This solution is from the owner manual for HS-U448, so I figure your model is the same.

Samsung vr3607 vcr is locked

following is pasted from SV-7000W manual: 1 To lock the VCR, hold down the P/STILL (II) button for approximately five seconds. Result: The lock indicator (LOCK) is displayed. If a cassette is in the VCR when you lock it, the cassette will first be ejected. 2 To unlock the VCR, hold down the P/STILL (II) button again for approximately five seconds. Result: The lock indicator (LOCK) is no longer displayed. If that fails, try the same thing using the play/stop button. Cheers
