Your symptoms sound as if you have a trojan or virus running in the background, i assume you have an upto date antivirus programme, if so start your pc in safe mode (press F8 key on startup) and then select start windows in safe mode, when you select your operating system, it will load the minimum of drivers and give an administrator account.

Click on this account and then run the antivirus and spyware programme, then restart your pc.

My system is hanging.what can i do?

Try going to the task manager to check if you have too many processes running on the background that may be consuming resources. You can open it by pressing the Ctl+Alt+Del keys on your keyboard at the same time.

How can i change the colors of my desktop back to normal. i have a old school desk top the box ones

You should be able to go into display properties and select Windows Classic as the theme.
Right click on Desktop
Select Properties
On Theme tab select Windows Classic and then click apply.

If you have customized the Windows Classic theme and saved as Windows Classic, then you will need to edit the registry to remove those customizations. If this is the case, reply to this solution and I will research and let you know where to make the changes. Beware that incorrectly modifying the registry can cause the system to not boot or have other problems.

Best of luck, Jim

My computer, Windows XP, freezes when I use Firefox

Your system loaded with Windows Xp Operating System might get affected by various viruses and malware. The antivirus softwares installed in your system for the removal and prevention of viruses from your system cause the freezing issue. This antivirus softwares might take too many time to load and it also make the entire system slow to boot. The antivirus programs result in the freezing of the Windows Xp during start up. Thus you need to temporary uninstall the antivirus software during the start up of your system.

Received a ibm thinkpad with window xp pro installed and passward was forgotten how can i remove passwork

You can run the emergency repair installation disk for Windows XP, and specify a new admin password during the process. If you do not have the disks, then it's a much more complex thing to solve (like booting up in safe mode and using command line functions).

Booting problem

You may have to boot from a CD and make a repair.
Once logged in the CD, choose repair option (Recovery Console), and type these three commands:
1) fixmbr (wait til it finishes)
2) fixboot (wait...)
3) CHKDSK (this will take longer than the previous two.
Your laptop may now boot normally. I think your laptop doesn't have an internal CD-ROM so you may use an external USB CD.

Windows problem

Shannon,

Right click on the desktop and select properties. On the "Theme" tab, choose Windows XP. On the "Desktop" tab, choose (None), at the top of the list. Press OK.

Does your desktop change? If so, a theme you were using was not compatible with your video. Try another theme.

If that doesn't work, reply to this message and we'll investigate further.
