The picture on my toshiba 50h12 went out while I was watching it. There was a simultaneous loud pop.

The first things that come to my mind is tuner check the tuner, check and play dvd's if its still the same a tuner board will need to be replaced.

While watching the tv, there was a sudden loud, sharp pop, sounding like a gun shot, and the picture went blank


Sounds like either something went pop on the main pcb or in the power supply. Will need a repairman to take a look. & Just a caution if you're feeling adventurous, don't do it yourself unless you know what you're doing!!

50H12 Toshiba HDTV picture out with loud 'pop'.


it depends on the age of the tv if its within 5 years old yes by all means its worth fixing.if its an older tv i would be hesitant in spending alot of money on it when u can buy a new one for the cost of the repairs.the power supply is inside the tv in the back.a part of it has stopped working id guess it will cost about 350 to 400 to repair possibly more,

i suggest checking the lamp. find you owners manual and go through the steps to "replace the lamp" if it is popped and you can see little pieces moving around inside than contact toshiba and they will send you a replacement with credit card numbers of course.

You need to replace the lamp in this set. The "pop" you heard was the lamp popping.

my guess is that that high voltage seals on tubes are leaking out high voltage from tubes if not probly sealed with silicon they will leak out high voltage.replace them and seal coorrectly this may fix your problem
