Can no longer connect laptop to television

I have an AKAI HDTV, a VGA cable, and have been connecting my laptop to the television successfully via the FnF5 toggle key. The last time I tried to connect, the icons did not appear when pressing the toggle key. There used to be three, now only the computer one appears so I can't select the television icon to switch my computer screen to the tv. What happened and how do I get them back?

Thanks so much for all of your time and information-BUT-before trying I should have been more specific-I have windows VISTA. Same procedure?

  • lesliet Sep 19, 2008

I am just trying to do this for the first time and it is not working for me either. I have an Acer Aspire 5100 running Vista Home Premium. I have connected a VGA component 3 RCA cable to my tv which is a Uniden and have also connected the red and white parts of a composite cable from the headphones part into Video 3 (same as what the VGA is going into) and I can hear the sound coming through the TV okay but no picture, even after pressing Fn F5 my laptop display goes black but no picture on the TV. Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks =)

Hi there Susie
,
Assuming your running XP....

Go to Start
go to control panel
then display
settings
=============================================
there should be two screens visible
click on screen 2 and then IDENTIFY
the video card should then put a Number 1 or 2 on the screen if its connected and turned on,
If there is only one screen visible in the display SETTINGS
then you will have to uninstall the device and reinstall it.

===========================================
How to Uninstall....

Go to start
Right click on My Compter,
Properties
Hardware
Device Manager
Right click on Display adapters
Uninstall
Reboot to save settings when done and restart

On start up the Operating System should auto recognise the device and reinstall it,
It will tell you when its installed and ready for use ,
or,
give you a device install failure message
Try again.

Once this is done the device should be up and laughing again.

As far as how did it happen???
Did you do any device updates or software installs lately?

Sometimes default settings of different softwares conflict with each other and the only way to sort them out is turn them off and start again.

I hope this helps,If you need any more help , please just ask

    Vista

this a similar aproach to this same situation

but there are extra passwords required before anything is changed,

Uninstall your device it will ask for a password before it does anything,ie add or remove software, reboot and restart,

Vista should sort any issues out itself, leave it to sort itself out,

Please let me know if you need more help,

    Misterdj

Have wireless internet need to connect tv to hp laptop

If its portability and convenience you're wanting to achieve you can connect your tv to your laptop via a hdmi or vga pc to tv device such as the one below.

wireless-internet-need-connect-tv-hp-h3kz2pmtsa0m5tqtbi05zsqk-5-0_1.jpg Or you could set your close lid settings to "do nothing" when lid is closed" and set it to "never sleep" when connected to AC power and use either an hdmi cable or male vga to male vga cable to connect to your tv. You will need a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse because u will no longer need to physically access your laptop. Make sure your tv input selection is correct. For example, hdmi 1, computer, vga, and etc.

What do I need to connect a laptop toshiba Satellite L675D-S7052 to a high definition tv

Assuming what you are trying to do is make your HDTV a giant monitor, your HDTV will need analog video input capability --either a standard d-type VGA connector or RGB composite RCA plugs. The laptop has a d-type VGA output. You will need a cable that has matching end for your laptop and TV....either VGA-to-VGA (d-type) or VGA-to-composite. This will handle the vcideo. You will also need a min stereo-to-mini-stereo cable to connect the audio from the headphone output of the laptop to the HDTV.

How do i connect my pc to my hdtv

It is quite possible the tv may have a VGA input in which case a standard VGA cable will allow you to connect the laptop to the tv. Otherwise you will need one of the following depending on what connections the tv has:

1. VGA to HDMI cable: http://www.amazon.com/Video-Cable-Black-Support-Necessary/dp/B002TUC64W/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1355697785&sr=1-1&keywords=vga+to+hdmi+cable

2. VGA to RGB cable: http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-Premium-Component-Cable-Black/dp/B0012SPNII/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1355697879&sr=1-1&keywords=vga+to+rgb+cable

If you do not have an HDMI input, you will also need to get an audio cable as well. Standard mini-stereo audio cables should allow you to connect the laptop to the tv.

How to connect my acer D255E to the TV

According to the limited resources that I could find your only video output is a VGA port. Most newer televisions, predominantly LCD televisions will allow a direct connection via VGA. If your TV does not support VGA, can try using:
VGA to HMDI for HDTV's - Amazon search http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=vga+to+hdmi&x=0&y=0
With these I typically recommend a full force converter over a cable, but often times cables will work. Remember that with a VGA to HDMI cable only, this will only pass video and not audio. You will need separate cables for audio.
If you have a non-HDTV try this: http://www.amazon.com/VGA-Adapter-S-Video-Cable-Video/dp/B000Y7T5UU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1315249911&sr=8-1
Use either S-video or RCA connectors to your TV.

Have a toshiba a10 and a vizio hdtv, what cable do I need to connect the two

Hi.

You don't say what you intend to do once the 2 devices are connected. I am going to assume that you just want to use the vizio hdtv as a large external monitor.

The laptop's vga (15-pin blue or black D-shaped) port can connect direct to the hdtv via it's blue vga (15-pin blue D-shaped) port.

However, your toshiba a10 laptop is relatively old, discoontinued technology with (in original specification) low RAM (256mb ddr), a single, slow processor (2.2ghz celeron) and slow (4300rpm), small hard drive (30gb), with limited, low level vga graphics capability, running xp home edition operating system. VGA is a slow analogue video technology.

To get the full benefit of the hdtv, which is almost state-of-the-art, you need a laptop with a fast dual or quad core processor, 3-4gb ddr3 RAM, 320-500gb 5400-7200rpm or solid state HDD, running the latest windows 7 operating system. Such a laptop would have hdmi ports and powerful, fast, state-of-the-art graphics capability.

A new laptop would unlock the full spectrum of , high definition video, high speed audio-visual streaming, fast video-editing, multimedia functionality between the two devices.

For your current laptop you need a male-to-male 15-pin, D-Sub VGA cable.

For the recommended or a similar, modern laptop you would need an HDMI cable.

Hope this helps.

What do I need and how do I connect my Toshiba L305 model PSLB8 050302f to my hdtv to view online tv?

I dont believe that laptop has an HDMI port on it. If you have an LCD TV then your TV may have a VGA or DVI input on it. You can connect your laptop to the TV by using a VGA to VGA or VGA to DVI cable. If you your TV doesn't have one of these input ports, then you're not going to get your laptop connected to your TV.
