You need the pass key for the wireless network you're attempting to connect to in order to complete the connection. When you look at the available networks you'll find that the one you're attempting to connect to is "locked".

Installed Trendnet wireless adapter. Connection shows excellent but can't browse internet

The "excellent" is the signal-strength between your wireless adapter
and your wireless router.
You still need to select the SSID ("network name") that you configured into the router, and enter the password for your network, before you can connect to the Internet.
Compare it to having a brand-new mobile telephone. Until you dial a friend's number, and the friend answers, all you have is an "excellent" telephone.

The security setting changed to access my wireless

Hello there!

Well, there can me a lot of small little problems for you this time. I suggest you to firstly logon your router via his general ip adress. After you change wireless password entry settings (i suggest you to use wpa2 systems, I suppose you dont need bigger security if its home network) , you should then check your wireless reciever, restart it, refresh transmiter to search new connections, and when it founds your name connection, i.e. Dynex G, click on it and it should automaticly asks you for a password. Enter it and save it. Thats about it.

Sincerely
Aleksandar Adzic

The unsecure public network nay be using mac address filtering. In this case, the network will show as being unsecured, and will even allow you to connect in some cases, but then will not allow you to surf once connected.

Show network connections. If there is an X on wireless connection then connection is disabling and if no X then connection is enable.

make sure its enabled.

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.

Wireless Adapter

There is a reset button on the back of the wireless device you are trying to connect to. Press and hold in the reset button for 10-15 seconds, this will restore the device to factory defaults and should fix the problem. You will need to reconfigure the device as you need it. To do this, from a computer on the same network, logon the wireless device. You will need to use the IP of the wireless device. Open internet explorer and in the address window enter the following and press the enter key. EXAMPLE
http://192.168.2.1 This will give you the logon page of wireless device to allow configuration. If this does not fix the problem, then the wireless device is defective. BPCS
