Question about Sharp R420L Microwave Oven
There is no mechanism that will release the door. The door interlock circuit is broken. The door lock on Sharp MW oven gets opened when the latch is energizing.
By prying the door you can compromise the good working of the oven. The Microwave must be disassembled. If the door is hiding screws holding the chassis together, the technician may decide to break the door latch (this is made of plastic) by grabbing the upper and lower side of the door, pulling slightly and helping with a flat tool. If the operation is done by the user there is an high risk to warp the door frame or the chassis, causing more damage.
In this case I suggest disconnecting power for ten minutes. Since that may not work, call Sharp service at the number listed on the owners manual to have the oven repaired by a professional.

Usually, the door lever or hinges is the cause of this type of problem.
But in this case, I don't think the door lever or hinge is the cause of your problem.
I think the door is jammed and only needs some force before is can open or unjam.
Use your hands or a flat Philips screw driver to forcefully open the door. Don't apply too much force. Just apply a reason amount of force that could open the oven door.
Before you attempt to forcefully open the microwave door, leave it for about 45mins to 1hr, after that forcefully open the door.
If the above doesn't help to open the door, please let me know so that I can direct you further.
I wish you good luck.
Mine does this occasionally, and it's because the door hinges have got a bit out of line, allowing the door to drop slightly, so the catch mechanism won't quite disengage.
Look along the bottom edge of the door and see if it has dropped lower than the front panel next to it. Try applying a bit of upward pressure on the bottom edge with your fingers, while pulling towards you at the same time, and with your other hand press the release button.
If that gets it open, remove last night's failed meal, open the door fully and carefully force it up a bit at a time, to bend the hinges back to level - keep pushing the door back so it nearly closes, and look at the bottom edge to check on progress. When the bottom of the door looks level with the panel , try closing it fully and see if the release button will open it again.
