Make sure volume is up and not muted. Make sure that you have a voice selected in the voice menu. Under settings, make sure that you have guidance checked. When you press the buttons on the screen, do you hear beeps? If not, your speaker could be bad. More sound troubleshooting here:
If your garmin nuvi's voice prompt does not work anymore, then you have to connect it to a system, back up all your files, then you reset or format it, once you have done that, then you restore your maps back on it, then you connect it back to where you took it out from, then you reset the voice prompt. After doing this Your voice prompt should be in good order.
ope this information came in handy.
1. This is because some voice files are only basic but others speak the street names. To change the voice file press TOOLS, then press SETTINGS then press LANGUAGE. Press the VOICE and change it to a different one. 2. You can download extra voices, if you need to, by connecting your satnav to your computer, Download webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 and install it. When it's installed it'll look for software updates. After this it'll give you the option to download extra voices. Select the ones you want and press next. Follow the prompts and they will be downloaded to your satnav. When you have disconnected your satnav from the computer you can select a new voice as described in para 1 above.
Does audio give directions? If not it's likely that the Voice file is corrupted or disabled. To see if it's disabled press Tools, then press Settings Then press Language and see if there's a Voice displayed. If not press Voice and select one from the list. If there's no voice there connect your satnav to the computer. Download the latest version of Webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 and when it's installed click next. You'll get an option to download various voices. Tick the ones you want and click next to download them. When they've downloaded you'll be able to go back to tools, settings, language and select the voice of your choice.
On the other hand if it's only updating that the voice doesn't say select a different voice. Some of the voices don't say it while others do.
Every Garmin Nuvi unit I've seen has a (loud) built-in speaker. The only demand our 250s and 265 make of the vehicle is a 12V power supply (and they'll even work without that for a while, until the battery goes flat).
To activate the voice prompts, go to 1. Tools, 2. Settings, 3. Language, 4. Voice Language Option, 5 Select a Voice Option that includes a persons Name, eg Jack or TTS, Select OK and that should resolve your problem.
