My Janome machine is not connecting the bottom thread

Install a brand new needle (make sure it is installed correctly).
Remove the thread. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning making sure the thread path is correct.
Verify the bobbin has been inserted in the bobbin case correctly and the bobbin case has been threaded properly.
Have at least 4-6" of thread tail on both threads.

If it is still not picking up the thread, then the needle/hook timing may be off and should be serviced by a technician.

What must I now do to get it to make a loop. Have re-threaded 100 times

The machine timing and needle position is critical in catching the upper thread by the hook. The upper thread via the hook shuttle surrounds the bobbin making the stitch.

All machines have to achieve the same function but accomplish it through different arrangements.

the process includes the following: needle goes through fabric down adjacent to shuttle hook. needle starts up creating loop in upper thread at the point of the hook. Hook rotates and catches the loop.
Hook continues and thread circles the shuttle. Upper thread is pulled up by the thread take up.

I am having trouble getting the bobbin to function properly during sewing.

It could be the top thread is the problem. Might try removing all the thread. Consult the owner's manual for threading instructions. RAISE the presser foot BEFORE threading the upper thread so the thread will seat properly in the tension disk. Re-thread from the beginning carefully following the instructions--do not miss any spots or thread guides.

If top thread is still creating a mess of loops under the fabric, try tightening the upper tension. The tension is ideal when both upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

Borrow sewing machine from sister unsure how to thread it correctly and when i do the thread fromthe needle keeps breaking when i try to sew its a brother XL-5130 sewing machine and i know nothing on how...

you need to go to this webpage and download the instruction manual for this model. It has the threading up instructions plus selecting stitches, winding a bobbin etc.

The thread breaking is most likely due to incorrect threading up of the top thread. I suggest that if you can, you print out the manual, put into a little folder and place beside the machine and refer to it often. Follow the instructions in it on winding a bobbin, putting it into the bobbin case correctly and threading up the top thread. Make sure the bobbin goes into the case the correct way, as per image.
Remember, ALWAYS THREAD UP TOP THREAD WITH THE PRESSURE FOOT RAISED, this keeps the tension discs open so the thread can seat into the tension device correctly. And you must get the bobbin thread into the tension spring fully and then place the bobbin case into the shuttle using the little latch so it stays in place.

Also, new needle for every new project, and put the needle in "flat shank to the back". It will take standard domestic sewing machine needles 705/130H but it is important to select the correct sized needle for the fabric you are sewing so that the needle can penetrate the fabric but not leave big holes. So for light weights like chiffon you want a size 60 or 70. For medium weights a size 80 and for heavy fabric like denim or a coat weight wool you would use size 100. Ball points for stretch fabrics so that the needle pushes between the fibres and a regular point for woven fabrics.

I trust this helps you out, 4 thumbs up if so. Thank you.

I need to know how to set the tension. I need to know how to thread the bobbin. I need to know if the needle makes a difference. My stitches are loose and sloppy. They should be interlocking between...

Would be helpful to know what model machine you have.
A new machine should not need tension adjustment, so guessing it is not being threaded correctly. There should be adequate instruction on how to do this and how to wind a bobbin in the manual.
The main thing is you need to have the presser foot UP when you thread the top thread. This opens the tension discs so the thread will go between the discs and be put under tension once the presser foot goes down before you sew. When you thread the bobbin, be sure it is unspooling in the correct direction and that it clicks into its tension slot. A Universal 80 needle will do for 95% of what you sew, exceptions being very lightweight fabric, knitted fabrics, or very heavyweight fabric.
Write a reply back to Fixya if this does not help you, but include more detail on just exactly which machine you have.

Thread is going on cutting.

you do need to provide more details.  start here - get a fresh spool of high quality all purpose thread such as Coats and Clarks or Metrosene thread, fill a fresh bobbin, install a new size 11 needle.  Follow the threading instructions even if you've threaded the machine a million times, read the instructions again.  try sewing on some basic cotton fabric.  You'll be able to determine if it's the machine.  Breaking thread can be the thread (it does get too old and fragile), the needle, the incorrect needle for the fabric, the wrong thread for the fabric, and a host of other things.  So try that and tell us more if that doesn't work.

XL tension setting

Hi - and welcome to FixYa. It sound like your machine is not threaded correctly. Here is the first rule: when you thread your machine, make sure your presser foot is raised up. Never thread your machine when your presser foot is down. When the presser foot is raised, the tension dials open and allow your thread to pass through the dials when you thread the machine. If thread is loose and hard to handle while you are trying to thread, just press down on the thread somewhere near to the top of the machine so it does not slide around. Here is the good news - when you have reached the needle, you can lower the presser foot. Before you thread the needle, pull your thread - if you threaded the machine correctly, the thread should not move. If it does move, you need to start over. If the thread does not move, you can thread you need with the foot up or down, pull the thread under your presser foot and pull it toward the back of the machine. Leave a 2 or 3 inch tail.
