Linksys wireless router problems

Someone was nice enough to get back to me quickly, but the solution didn't work and I don't know why. Ethernet of my embarq dsl box should be hooked up to internet port of linksys and that my pc should be hooked up to port 1 of linkys. I did that and then I was bounced off the internet. Can someone please help me? I have to try to figure this out. I feel like a total idiot.

I can connect either of my 2 PCs via Ethernet to our DSL Modem and connect to the Internet. Now, though, when both PCs are connected to the Linksys Router and an Ethernet cable is connected to the DSL modem and Router, I can get either PC to connect on the Internet. The DSL modem light indicates it has an Internet connect and the Linksys router's Internet light is on but I can get on the Internet. What can I try?

Power down all the units. Power up the DSL first. After it is up, power up the router. After that is up, Power up the laptops one at a time. Let me know if this helps or not, there are other things to try after this...

My linksys router doesnt have a default gateway and the reset buttton on the router doesnt work either

When you look between the Ethernet port and Power button, there should be a reset button there you should hold for 5 seconds. Of course if you do that, If you changed Network name and key that will be reset to the default settings, Also is wireless network showing when you pull up the Networks? You can leave user name blank, but default password is admin. Also email me with more info I will be glad to help

Why is the link 192.168.0.1 not connecting me.

First, pull the power cord and reseat it to check if its not a temporary problem with the router.

You may need to set a static IP address on your computer to talk to your router in case someone has turned off DHCP. 192.168.0.2 would be a good choice, with 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway and see if you can ping the router on that IP address.

If you are using a wireless adapter, try using an ethernet cable if the above doesn't work.

If these steps don't work, the router may not be using that IP address.

Your Linksys Wireless-N Router comes with the Cisco Connect software which makes setting up and managing your Linksys Wireless-N Router a quick and simple experience. You'll have your Linksys Wireless-N Router up and running in no time.

NOTE: The Linksys E2100L router is only available in the U.S. For help on setting up a Valet or Valet Plus, please click here.

Some basic requirements before you begin
i. An active Internet connection.
ii. A computer with a wireless or wired Ethernet adapter, running one of the operating systems below.
- Windows XP with Service Pack 3
- Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 or better
- Windows 7
- Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.9
- Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11
- Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8
- Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.1
Getting started
Provided that the above requirements are met, you can now begin setting up your Linksys Wireless-N Router. In this example, we'll be setting up the Linksys E3000 High Performance Wireless-N Router. The following steps will walk you through the entire process.
Step 1:
Your Linksys Wireless-N Router allows you the freedom of running setup via a wired or wireless connection. Therefore, please start by performing the instructions under the description that best matches the computer you're working with. Proceed to Step 2 once you're done.
Description A:
You are using a computer with no wireless connectivity that is normally connected with an Ethernet cable to your DSL/Cable modem.

Instructions A:
Please connect one end of the supplied Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer, and connect the other end into one of the numbered Ethernet ports at the back of your Linksys Wireless-N Router.
Description B:
You are using a laptop with a built-in wireless adapter.

Instructions B:
If you're using a laptop, please ensure that its wireless feature is switched ON, and that your laptop is positioned within 5 feet of your Linksys Wireless-N Router.
NOTE: Most laptops have a switch that turns its wireless feature ON and OFF. Refer to your laptop's documentation or online help if you're unsure where this switch is. This doesn't apply if you purchased an external wireless adapter separately.
Step 2:
On your computer, insert the supplied Setup CD that came with your Router. Setup should start automatically.

NOTE: If setup doesn't load automatically, please click here.

Step 3:
The first screen greets you with the Software End User License Agreement. Please take a moment to read through and understand the agreement. Once you're ready, go ahead and click Next.

On the next window, please follow the on-screen instructions on how to connect your Linksys Wireless-N Router:

NOTE: The Linksys E3000 features a power switch, located at the back-end of the unit, next to the power port. Please make sure that this switch is ON. Other Router models may not have this feature.

kb21463-004_en.png Plug the Internet cable into the yellow port in the back of your router labeled "Internet". Plug the other end into the modem.
QUICK TIP: Click Show me how for an illustrated guide on how to complete the above instructions.
After completing the above steps, click Next to continue.

Step 5:
Setup will now perform a series of tests to determine the optimum configurations for your network. You may notice your computer connecting and disconnecting to a wireless network several times. This is normal. Your wireless network is simply being secured.
NOTE: The setup process automatically generates a unique and secure Wireless Network Name (SSID) for your convenience.

kb21463-006_en.png Step 6:
The next part of the setup automatically detects your Internet connection type. If you are using a DSL connection, you may be requested to enter your account details. If this is the case, simply enter your Account name and Password in the allocated fields. Otherwise, you may skip ahead to Step 7.
NOTE: If you don't know your Account name and Password, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will be able to provide these details.

QUICK TIP: Click Examples to see what your Account name should look like.

kb21463-007_en.png NOTE: Cable Internet users will not see the above screen.
Step 7:
Sit back and wait a moment as setup finalizes your Linksys Wireless-N Router settings, and re-establishes your Internet connection.

kb21463-008_en.png Step 8:
Once your Internet connection is up and running, a confirmation window similar to the screenshot below will appear on your screen. Your Linksys Wireless-N Router is now secure and connected to the Internet. This concludes the setup process. Click OK to continue.

kb21463-009_en.png
Step 9:
You will now be taken to the main Cisco Connect window which lets you manage and further personalize your network settings. If you would like to learn more about the available features in Cisco Connect, please click here. Otherwise, you may click on the Close button to exit Cisco Connect, and begin surfing the Internet right away.
NOTE: To launch Cisco Connect again at later time, on a Windows computer, go to Start>All Programs>Cisco Connect. To launch Cisco Connect on a Mac computer, navigate to the Applications folder in Go, and then start Cisco Connect. For more help on this, please click here.

kb21463-010_en.png NOTE: Cisco Connect is automatically installed each time you use the Setup CD or Easy Setup Key to setup or connect to your Linksys Wireless-N Router.

I have linksies router and 2 wire modem will they work together?

If the Modem has an ethernet port (looks like a large phone plug like the ones on the router) connect an ethernet cable from it to the "internet/wan" port on the router. If it doesn't there isn't much you can do.

Connecting to internet

Ok, cable (coax) comes in from wall and attaches to modem. Ethernet cable goes from modem to WAN Port of router. You may have to reboot both devices to ensure that your modem (internet service provider) assigns IP address to your router. If PC is close enough, attach new ethernet cable from one of the 4 ports on your router down to your PC's ethernet adapter. (where your modem used to plug into). Router will now assign an IP address to your PC and you should be able to access the www.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

Wireless router needing ethernet connection?

Hi ABVT66 - Didn't your router come with two short cables? It should have. One is the cable that hooks up the modem to your router and the other is the cat5 (ethernet) cable that connects your router to your pc. Let me know if you have these cables. Also, if you check your device manager on your pc, click on the + next to network adapters and it will tell you your network adapter. DON'T RATE THIS 'TIL WE'RE DONE. Thanks.

Not enough ethernet ports

I have this router, you do not need two ports for your pc.
one port marked internet goes into your modem then the other ports marked 1-4 goes into your pc. it doesnt matter what one you plug it into. heres a little diagram

MODEM---------> LINKSYS ROUTER ------------> PC ethernet port.

(note: the cable from the modem to router and router to pc is a straight through cable, AKA Patch Cable. )
