Prolly the cheapest/easiest solution would be to goto your local pawn shop and see if you can score a onkyo or sony receiver with a fiber optic input...
There is possibly an easier way!! If your receiver has RCA audio out ports you can hook that up to your TV. It will not be Dolby Digital surround sound, but it will still be stereo sound!! There should be ports on the back of your TV that say audio in that will support these cables also. I had the same problem when I hooked up my PS3 to my HDTV. I wanted to hear my gameplay in stereo!! I hope this helps you out!!!

Model #RX-V493 Yamaha...sorry I should have advised you on that also. I have bought a fiber optic cable only to find out there is no fiber optic connection. This must be really an old receiver.
If I need to buy a new one can you recommend an inexpensive one.
Thank you
I did try that first unfortunately, the audio never worked on the tv at that time it was an issue w/Olevia which I think they have corrected but it does me no good now.
I appreciate everyone help and guess I will just break down and buy a new receiver. Would appreciate any suggestion inexpensive suggestions...
Thanks for everyone's assistance
Thank you very much why didn't I think of that...That's will be on my to do list this weekend...
The best solution in your case would be to purchase a fiber optic audio cable (from amazon, search for belkin fiber optic audio cable, 12 bucks maybe??)... how far away is your PS3 from your receiver? Does your receiver have fiber optic audio connection on it? It is a squareish hole with a little flapper that covers up the hole.
Need more info to help ya.... Model number of receiver etc...
