There are a couple of things that can cause ignition problems:

The exterior direct vent termination may be clogged.
The gas line shutoff is not turned ON or is only partially open.
The filter needs cleaning. Be sure to turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF before removing the filter. Leave it Off until the filter is cleaned and replaced.

All the above problems you can troubleshoot and solve yourself. The ones below, require an authorized Rinnai Service Technician to solve.

Spark ignition failure.
Faulty solenoids.
Faulty Flame Rod.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

My Rinnai 1001F has just developed a loud rattle when turned on. What's the most common problem and who fixes in Manchester NH?

There are two fans or blowers in your unit. The first to turn on prior to the flame starting. The second fan blows out hot air into the room. Depending upon when the rattle starts will dictate which fan is causing the rattle. Any good gas company should be able to help you out.

Heat shuts off, red power light blinking and number 12 blinking on the display screen.

You may have had a power failure. The situation could be as simple as turning the stove off and on again. The 12 code means flame failure. Gas heater are nothing to mess around with if you don't understand them completely. Don't remove anything from the unit unless you are very sure what you're doing. A call to Rinnai is in order if the code keeps coming on. Good luck,

Tom

Heater turns on initially - green light comes on and it fires up, stays on for 5 seconds then switches off, followed by a continuous beeping sound.I have tried this several times and the same thing happens...

When you say it lights up is the green light changing to red to let us know the unit has sensed a flame? If you get a visible flame but no red light then this indicates either the flame sensor is fauly or the electronic board is faulty

Rinnai 1004 F Error Code 11

Code 11 is that the unit is trying to light but does not sense a flame after 5 seconds. Usually means you have run out of gas if you are bottled gas. Check your bottles are turned on if you are on LPG, you might need to change over manually. Have you anything else on gas?

I get a blinking light with the number 12 flashing on my rinnai heater

With the unit turned off, hold down on the economy button, the up arrow and down arrow all at the same time for three seconds. A number of error codes will start flashing. Copy the numbers down and repost them so we can help you. I suspect a dirty flame rod or poor gas pressure. Can you give us any info on when it fails or does it light when you turn off and back on?

Rinnai Energysaver 1001FT, ignites, blows 5mins then shuts down.

Sounds like it is reaching high limit...either the filters on the back are plugged, or the manifold pressure isn't adjusted properly. IF the exhaust were plugged on the unit, it wouldn't fire at all, since it has a pressure switch to verify vent flow. The slightest blockage, the unit will lock out to prevent damage to the unit.

Rinnai mdl. 1001 LP does not light.

If your unit starts and runs for any length of time before quitting you may have a problem with the circulating fan blades. They need to be spotlessly clean. The filter is easy to get to, however the blades are not. Taking the circulating fan apart is a pain. A long brush that can get into the blades would work. You can blow them out with air but that gets everywhere. If the whole inside of the unit is linted over, all that stuff has to go. Be sure the lovers in the front of the stove are all open.

Good luck,
