The harddrive is likely to be located with some screws

Remove these screws
There will be a ribbon cable and a power lead - remove these
you will then need to install this into your current PC.
1 - Do you have a spare line or space on an IDE line...
2 - You will need to establish whether you are on primary or secondary line, and then if you need to set your hard drive to be a master or slave Hard drive (recommned slave on the 'other' line to your master hard drive) - this will improve the communication speed.

Packard Bell Master CD

If I where looking for this, I'd hit up yellowpages.com and look for all computer shops, antique malls, pawnshops and flea markets in the area and start making calls to see if they have antiquated technology laying around.

I, personally, love tinkering around with these old machines. It's been a hobby since they where new! lol And I'm a pawn broker, so I'd be one shop that may have what you need. (I don't, unfortunately, I looked.) And you'd be shocked what all you can find for a quarter at a flea market or an antique mall.

Newer monitor won't work with packard Bell R450

Wow, it's about time to dump the Packard Bell. Maybe the Video Card has gone bad in the Packard Bell and if you fix it your old monitor might work.

My Packard Bell ipower PC is 3 years old and was supplied with 2GB RAM but now says 1GB in system properties - also says "new hardware detected" - has 1GB of the RAM stopped working?

> has 1GB of the RAM stopped working?

Yes, or that 1GB stick of RAM is not "seated" properly into its slot.

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power cord.
Remove one stick of RAM.
Reconnect the AC power.
Start the computer, and see if reports "zero" RAM or "1GB" of RAM.

Repeat with the other stick of RAM.

> "new hardware detected"

That's a quite-different problem -- changing RAM does _NOT_ cause this message.

Can't get past the 'Packard Bell' logo page when turning on pc

It seems to me that the problem is in your BIOS.. has the system taken any hard knocks lately? lightning strikes? brownouts? how old is the system? IF it has a FLASH BIOS you may be able to contact Packard Hell and get a new bios flas utility.. either online or direct marketing. if the system is more than 5 yrs old, maybe it's time to replace it :)

If you have a router with two thernet ports you can connect them together using this.
Otherwise you can take the hard drive out and connect it to your new computer but this can be tricky to do.
The other thing you could do is buy a USB hard disk caddy. Fit you hard drive into this and then connect it to the USB port of your new computer. Make sure the caddy will take your size and type of hard disk.

Just got old Packard Bell Platinum 55 - Me =computer idiot. start up says "invalid system disk, replace disk, and then press any key" - I tried going to setup, but it asks for password. Don't...

Try this. Remove battery for a few minutes,re insert. This will put it back to the original factory settings, which will not need a password.Good Luck
