This seems to be a fairly "normal"problem with the camera. I sent mine to the Canon repair facility in Illinois, and they repaired it for free, as it was under warranty. I would suggest that you do the same. It is definitely NOT your fault that the camera is not working.

While taking a picture, the camera went dead. The lens was out and the camera was completely dead. I am on holiday and this is a terrible situation. Sending it in for repair is simple consolation to the lost shots of my holiday.

This seems to be a common problem,
happened to me as well and, up to now none of the solutions worked. Altough some people have said that Canon took back the cameras, fixed them and returned them for free. I am (as everyone with this problem seems to be) on vacation and I really regret not beeing able to take pictures !...

Same here! I am on a vacation and the camera went dead. I cannot believe this. Grrrrrrrrr...

Unfortunately, my camera is out of warranty, and it will not power up. Same problem that everyone else is reporting. I wonder if there is a recall on this since it seems to be a common problem. Does anyone know how much would it cost to repair?

Camera worked fine one minute, wouldn't turn on 5 minutes later. I put in a fully charged battery...won't turn on.

Just today I have experienced the same problem that has been described by many. Has there been a real fix? Any new news?

  • iamketra Feb 20, 2009

I have the same problem, even with a fully charged battery my G9 won't power on.

I have dropped it - and it has a very slight rattle - maybe this is why.

This is usually from a loose screw inside the camera, a screw inside the camera can come loose and cause a short which is very common on the G9. If you go to: www.camerasandparts.com all they deal with is service for the Canon Powershots. They're great if you need a hand with one of these and they automatically do the no power correction on the G7's and the G9's they service which is nice. They are about the least expensive out there at $89 and they include the service and the shipping back. The best part, they do excellent work which is a must for me. Hope that helps you some.

What I did was remove the battery and recharge it fully over night. When I put it back in the camera, the battery had enough power to over come the problem and let the camera operate normally. It has been a few days and the camera has been acting fine. I think it may have something to do with the lens motor from information I have gathered from other internet help sites. All I know now is that this problem has happened to many G9 camera users.

It is now several months since the time my G9 had the problem. I have not encountered the problem again. The strange thing that is a common thread in this stream is that most times this problem crops up is when people are on holiday.

Love the camera, but yesterday I turned it on, the lens came out, and everything went dead. Tried charging the battery, played with the battery cover switch, nothing helped. Worse thing is that I'm in Afghanistan.  Any solutions other then sending back to Canon??

My Cannon Powershot G9 camera is having the following problems: 1) I can not change the function; is is stuck on record. Pushing click button does not stop recording, 2) The battery seems to be draining...

That's a typical power problem in this camera, it probably has a short from some loose screws inside. This is a common thing on your model, you can just have it fixed and the screws inside the camera corrected so they can't come loose on their own again. The site that does the service on the Canon Powershots that is wonderful is: www.camerasandparts.com They only work on the Canons and they are terrific for service on these. They don't charge much at all and they include the correction to the screws that come loose on all G9's when they service them. Good luck having it fixed up, that site is where many people go for help with this power problem on the G9's

MY CAMERA DOESNT TURN ON THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGE

The Canon G9 has a design defect, two screws fall out inside the camera and short out the fuse. If you've never had it fixed for no power before this is most likely what has happened to your camera.

Do a Google search for "canon g9 no power repair" and you will see a full repair service including return shipping of your camera for just $85.

Hope this helps!

Suddenly my G9 won`t start at all. Battery is fully charged

More than likely, your camera has a short from some loose screws inside. A lot of these G9's get this problem.
You get it fixed, it's $89 all in at: www.CamerasAndParts.com
The great thing with that site is they just service the Canon Powershots exclusively and they totally know these cameras. They include the parts, the labor, the service for the camera, the no power correction included, and even the shipping back. It costs $89 for everything with them and they do excellent work on the Powershots.
Good luck with it. If you need help with a Powershot, they're the place for one of these models!

There shouldnt be anything wrong with cannon g9 camera but even when i let the battery cgarged for more than a day the camera still wont turn on what should i do?

You likely have a very common no power problem that sometimes comes up on the Canon Powershot G9 Camera. It's caused by two screws inside the camera that come loose and make it short out. You need to have it serviced and that problem is not much at all to fix. If you go to: camerasandparts.com they just specialize in service for the Powershots. They're amazing if you need some help with one of these. They have a deal for $89 total with return shipping and that covers the total service and repair, plus they include a fix on all the G9's so the short never happens again. Best of luck, that's too nice of a camera to not be turning on.

Cannon power shot G9 won't turn on

If it's under a year, send it in for warranty with proof of purchase. If the warranty has since expired, try this site: www.camerasandparts.com They're amazing for help with these. The no power problem on the G7 and the G9 is most often from a common loose screw that falls out inside the camera and causes a short, resulting in no power on the device. The site I gave you does the internal correction to the screws so you don't have to worry about the problem from keep happening. They're $89 with all of the service for the camera included and the repair and correction and even cover shipping back. The best part, they do amazing work on these Canons, good luck with it.
