If your transferring the video via USB then with Sony Cams you will need to download the drivers and install them (the sony website or google with normally have them)... then restart you computer and attempt to capture again using WMM.
PP seems corrupt, try reinstalling it and/or look at troubleshooting. if still f**ked then try rolling back your drivers to your camcorder and reinstalling them with a clean package.
- if you need details with rolling back drivers, google it.
Sounds like a problem with the European signal trying to be viewed on an NTSC signal set. If the picture plays back fine on the camcorder and not on the tv set then its most likely the conversation loss between the 2 different video standard signals
Cameras from that period are subject to bad capacitors in the video processing section that MAY be the cause of this. I can not state without reservation that this is the cause without seeing the camera in question and looking at the boards. If caught soon enough, replacing the caps will resolve the problem. If not caught, the caps will leak and can destroy some of the traces on the board which will make the camera unrepairable. Please have this unit checked. The caps are not expensive. The repair cost will be mostly labor as it takes time to replace the caps.
You camera is PAL and you are attaching with Ntsc TV or VCR. Both Pal and Ntsc are different systems and incompatible to each other.
If you want to see correct playback of your Camera, it requires Pal or Multi-System color TV.

Here is the solution to rolling view screen. First, set your camcorder in the cradle or station and it's plugged in. Secondly, press the icon that looks like a home. At the bottom of the screen select the icon that looks like the tool box (far right side). Next, you will get one screen with 4 options on the first page, and if you select the down arrow you will get to "General Set". Then select "calibration" and touch the x's when the camcorder prompts you to. It worked for me and it should for you. Don't bring your unit in for repair, just send me a best wish and we'll call it even... :) Good Luck!
the problem of your camera is the alignment...so try to adjust the two tape guide and two small screw near at the video head is you can open your camera..doing these you should be careful cause your to close to the head or you may damage it..adjust the small screw first slowly...if is not work then the tape guide...
