Sound card issue for Satellite A100 PSAAKL-00M002 laptop

My laptop comes with Vista Basic. However, I reformatted my computer with Windows XP Service Pack3. I went to Toshiba website (singapore) to download all the required drivers and components.

All is okay except the audio part as my laptop does not have sound, not even windows sounds.

For the audio card, I have downloaded the realtek (non vista version ) driver. After installing the audio driver, I went to device manager to see if there are missing or incompatible drivers as shown above. All drivers seem to have been properly installed. But still, playing any music files or video files are quiet. I have restarted my laptop, ensured all volumes are turned to maximum but still its useless.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for replying so soon.

Hmm.. I have downloaded the KB888111 update and tried patching it but I cant seem to patch it because windows gave me a "windows version is newer than the hotfix" kind of message (Mine is XP service pack3).

Any other methods I can try ?

Yes. I have the sound effect manager and the volume controls in my systray.

    I got my driver from

I would think my driver is correct because I was prompted to download the driver after indicating the specific model of my laptop. There are 3 types of sound drivers but one is for vista and the other is for a different model. So, I downloaded the one that seems to be the most obvious choice of the 3. Also, my device manager has indicated in the screen shot in my 1st post does not indicate any missing or erroneous drivers so i presume my sound driver is the same. Or is there any way of checking ?

I did a check in the device manager under system devices. Seems that microsoft UAA bus driver for high audio is installed as well.

Ya, when i mean quiet, I mean totally no sound at all. This is rather *****....

    warmest regards

Have you installed KB888111 and then installed audio driver. If not then uninstall driver, install KB888111 and then re-install

Sorry. my bad, KB888111 is already in SP3!

When you say 'quiet' do you mean you can hear the audio but it is not loud enough, or do you mean you cannot hear any audio at all?

The Realtek driver should install a System Tray icon and a Control Panel icon. With these you can configure the ports to be inputs or outputs. Do you have this control panel applet?

If so, click on the coloured sockets in the application and you can change the function on some of them.

For a notebook, if you have the correct driver, it should just work - are you sure you have the correct driver?

    Which driver did you download

    I cannot see an A1100 or a S8111TD listed under Satellite ???

What exact model do you have?

It seems many people on Tishiba user forum have had same issue. Especially with SP3 !

    Try ...

Try downloading the XP driver from here instead.

have you tried headphones in headphones socket?

Have you a sound device in Control Panel or does it say no Audio device?

    Go to Control Panel
    Select Administrative Tools
    Then Services
Scroll down to Windows Audio (if the service is stopped)
Double click - and select start if service status is stopped. Also verify startup status is set to automatic.
Sound should then be enabled once again. If problem is persistent restart your pc....

Driver for Toshiba Satellite A100 PSAAKL-00N002

**** my friend, I've gone to Toshiba Site for Australia and New Zealand and found many with PSAA but none with KL thouggh close (I think), so I Googled it and a toshiba forum mentions that it is most likely an Asian Version and not European or i checked out website and there it has less i.e just A100 no PSAAKL etc.

I suspect most drivers from around the world for the A100 would be almost identical if not exact with some exceptions.

Any idea where the Laptop was bought? Where it was bought normally helps in deciding which Toshiba site to go to. Also I suspect the KL stands for Kuala Lumpur but I'm probably wrong.

Anyway Good Luck

No sound coming from laptop

did you have the laptop/notebook from new if so then you should have had a set-up disc containing all of the drivers needed to activate items such as modems, sound card, graffics card etc.
this is just a simple problem and can be rectified instantly by inserting set-up disc and loading all avaliable drivers!
if no disc avaliable then log onto the toshiba website and download the up to date drivers needed for your laptop/notebook
