This could be one of a few problems. The first thing you should do is go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound. Then plug in your headphones. If the headphones come up in there then set the headphones to default and that should fix the problem. If this doesn't fix it, you need a new pair of headphones. If the headphones don't come up, you should try the following:

1. Run Windows Update and see if any of the drivers for your computer are automatically downloaded.
2. Go to this link and download and install any audio drivers you find for your PC.
3. Check again if the headphones are showing up and not being set as default since you may have installed the drivers but not set it as default.
4. If none of these fix the problem, it's a problem with the jack hardware. You'll need to contact Sony support or take it into a shop to have the hardware fixed.

Sony Vaio laptop (PCG-61317L) once I start browsing the internet, the screen freezes and the mouse cursor disappears from screen. When I don't browse the internet, it sometimes does the same thing

The reason this is happening is that as you are typing; you're resting some weight on the thin plastic above the touchpad...which then makes contact and registers a 'click'; thus moving your cursor around. Or you're brushing your thumb against it when hitting the space key.

Some laptops are more susceptible to this than others. Some more modern laptops come with a button to turn the touchpad off to solve this very problem.

The only thing you can do about this is to disable the touchpad through the touchpad driver (down by the clock, usually) and use a mouse instead. Depending on how you use your laptop, this will be more or less inconvenient- if your laptop never leaves the desk; disable the touchpad and use a mouse...no problem. If you go mobile a lot, you'll have to enable and disable the touchpad all the time.

The other thing you can do is adapt your typing style so you don't put any weight on anything but the key you're pressing. This is quite difficult and uncomfortable, and is not recommended for long sessions.

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-3F1M and the headphone jack is broken. This is a hardware rather than software or driver fault. Does anyone have any advice on how to get the casing off? I believe once inside it...

Here is a link for the disassembling of a different Sony model, but yours should come apart the same way (be cautious):

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy Holidays!

May be yor codec (decoding system) is missed. Try different player, also if using Klitecodecks reset settings. Find sound program and turn off 5.1 or 7.1 sound and choose 2 speakers.
