Hi. While holding power button, and pressing reset will do a hard reset to your PDA (reset the device to its factory default settings). So if your PDA is working well, don't do it. As for the syncronization with your Vista PC; Winodws XP uses the ActiveSync software for syncronization, and for Windows Vista, Microsoft developed a brand new syncronization software called "Windows Mobile Device Center". It can be downloaded here: (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx). When you download/install this software to your PC, you should be able to connect your PDA to your PC without any problem, and definitely without changing any OS in your PDA or PC. Hope this helps.
Dear Phil, its mean you have to update the GPRS Service.
there are 2 ways to downlaod the files, GPRS or internet
1. click on the quick gps connetion icon, select setting.
2. select setting, then check the enable update and initial GPRS
3. click on icon and select download, it will connect to date service and download the files.
step 1 and 2 above
3. click icon select download while it on cradle.
also install the quick gps utility on pc, and add the quick qps
connection into activesync list. each time you synchronize PDA the file
will get updated.
For your second problem ,which is related to File Passward protections , its seems you had create these Worksheets on NTFS File system thatswhy they asked about the passward.
With ref to the downloaded files. There are 5 sets of files on the server.
2 Day version 2
7 Day Version 2
All of the above appear to be updated once per hour although none of them now seem to work for me with Global Locate's version 1.19 software. There is also a 10 day version which seems not to be updated any more. There are notes on the internet that explain how to edit the registry to make the software point to an appropriate area for the correct file. If you are pointing to the 10 day version it might be possible to point at the 2 or 7 day versions and recover the situation. There are only two lines to edit but bear in mind all the warnings about editing the registry
The ipaq requires a GPRS connection to download and refresh its GPS files every 2 days. Check the GPS symbol at the bottom right corner of the screen. It has to be blue. If it is grey, the GPS files need to be refreshed. Hp recommends MapAsia and it works, though the landmarks are not correct. The roads are ok. I do not know about diginav.
When connected with Activesync you can use your Internet connection on the PC.
In the Activesync Window: Options/Rules/Pass Through - Connection: The Internet
Then leave the PDA in the cradle and access the Internet on the PDA, works automatically ever after.
You may need to use the hard reset to make the quick gps connection working. but you will lost all ur program or data, including smart nav or tom tom. if you ready want to use the hard reset, remember to download smart nav or tomtom program. or you will end out no map in your system. good luck
