Question about Air Conditioners

No A/C Msg. On Control Unit

Our Honeywell Chromotherm III was not working this morning and we have a tenant in the basement apartment we rent. This morning it was not cool and when my wife looked at the control unit it said No A/C. Might this be that the A/C was turned off from down stairs at the unit? My belief is that if a breaker went that more than just the A/C would have blown.

Apparently the tenant turned off the unit because he was too cool. I explained that basements are normally cool anyhow but he could close some of the vents.

I am in a rented unit, the power went off the other day and now I can't get my aircon split system (no manuals provided) to work again

Normally in your situation I would call the owner and ask for instructions. You could request the owner to send a technician and get it up as a tenant you cannot be denied use of the aircon if that is part of your lease benefit.
We cannot help you much at fixya.com without knowing the make and model number of the aircon unit. Usually with split systems I could suggest you turn the mains power off at the circuit breaker, wait a few seconds and then turn back on. Then go to the internal unit and with remote control start the unit. See if everything comes back to normal.

My tenant alleges that the excessive amount of water in the basement came from the A/C unit. I have pics.

OK, so what's your question? Unfortunately, I can't answer it, if I don't know what it is.

Window unit no longer cooling

you could pull the front cover off and see if there is a loose wire in the control box (behind where the control knobs are). it could just be a bad thermostat. you will see a copper wire with a silverish end on it coming out of the t-stat, try holding it between your fingers for a few minutes to warm it up, turn the t-stat to coldest setting possible, turn unit on, and then see if the compressor will kick on. if neither of those things help you could try replacing the thermostat, probably not expensive from samsung if the unit isn't too old. if that doesn't help either then the compressor probably bit the dust. but if not its worth fixing! hope that helps.

We have a Honeywell Chromotherm III thermostat and it has an error message "-AC". No fan, AC, heat, etc. Any ideas?

I almost think you have no power source to the thermostat as if the power is off to the air handler unit (furnace), or the 24 volt transformer is bad. Could well be that the error codes are being powered by the battery.
