Where to start? Did you set up internet service at your new abode? Were you just poaching internet from someone else's connection?
In a short answer to your question, yes. If you had wireless set up on your computer before, it's probably still there. Do you have something for it to connect to?

If the cables supplied have RJ45 connectors then they are used for connecting and configuring the wireless settings in Netgear router and to connect the Netgear to the DSL modem foe Internet access.
Most likely the color of the cables is not important.
To configure the wireless settings, connect a cable from one of the LAN ports (not the WAN/Internet port) to the LAN port on your computer. You may remove this cable after configuring the wireless settings if you want to connect to the Netgear by wireless only. You need to connect other computers to the Netgear's LAN port with a cable if they do not have wireless cards installed in these computers.

The other LAN cable is used to connect the Netgear WAN/Internet port to the DSL modem so you computers can connect to the Internet via the Netgear router.

Follow these instructions to configure the Netgear router.

Hello, Unfortunately, ISP techs often try to put blame on their clients equipment as much as possible. If your computer is showing limited connectivity, then this means that it is able to successfully connect to your wireless router, meaning that its probably not your adapter. Limited connectivity usually is a sign that you cannot reach the internet. This could be caused by multiple issues. In order to isolate the problem, try connecting your computer directly into your modem using the cable from the wireless router. If you can connect to the internet, then it is a configuration problem with your router. If not, then it is something with your connection to your ISP, in which case you need to call your ISP back and explain that situation. If you do happen to connect to the internet, then please reply, and we can go from there.

Why does my computer say LAN is not connected but my ethernet cable is plugged in?

1. You possibly have lost the IP address from the ISP to your router and you will need to release/ renew the IP or you have a damaged Ethernet cord ( rare) but none the less could be damaged.
2. unplug the Ethernet cord from the connection at the wall for a few seconds and then plug it back in the wall connector.
Then try your connection. Call your ISP ( internet service Provider) and check the line to see if you have proper signal to the router.

Further instructions:
1.Log into router
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop/desktop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.

Connect your Earthlink Modem's RJ45 connector to your router's RJ45 WAN connector. The router should then provide wireless internet to other computers via their wireless cards.

Wireless connection

Make sure that your computer is getting a valid IP address from the router. If your wireless network is secured, you might as well consider checking the wireless settings.

Nintendo usb connector

hi coolsoph,

Firstly, take note that Windows Vista doesn't support the Nintendo USB connector (currently there is now way of making it work on Vista, hopefully this will be resolved with the release of Vista Service Pack 1).

Secondly, and this is if you are using Windows XP as your computer operating system, try these steps to enable XP to share it's Internet connection with other computer (for ex your Wii):

1. Click Start -> Control Panel
2. In Control Panel open the Network Connections applet
3. Right-click on your active connection (will be named something like "Local Area Connection" if you use a cable to connect to your router or "Wireless Network Connection" if you use a wireless technology to connect to your router).
4. Click on Properties
5. Select the Advanced tab
6. Check the box named "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" in the Internet Connection Sharing area.
7. For good measure you can restart your PC after checking the box

I hope this is helpful information and thanks for using the FixYa services
Regards
