Is the drive USB or Firewire? If so, disconnect the drive from the USB/Firewire port, reboot the pc and then connect the drive. Windows should then find and install the drive.

I forgot my password to unlocking my WD external hard drive 2 TB? How can I unlock it without loosing all my data saved?

to remove the hdd password do the follwing
1) Restart your computer. Note that during computer restart, the screen goes blank for 3 to 5 seconds. Text then appears and the operating system boots up.
2) As soon as the first text lines appear on the screen, press the "Del" key on your keyboard to enter the BIOS setup
3) Navigate to "Security" in the BIOS menu using the arrow keys on your keyboard
4) Navigate to the option "Hard Disk User Password" and press "Enter
5) Navigate to a hard drive, press "Enter" and select "Disable" to remove the hard drive password.
6) Press "F10" to save and exit the BIOS settings. Computer booting resumes.

this will remove the hdd password

I lost the installation cd for my western digital external hard drive how can i install it without the cd

Without the model# of your drive, I can only get you as far as the Western Digital Support Downloads portal page (link below). When you get there, be a little patient using their site and track doen the driver download for your model. Download it by saving it to your desktop and then install it from there.

After that, you should be able to connect hte drive and start using it.

Accidently uninstalled Western Digital program

google western digital and dowload the drivers again, then reinstall from disc if you have one! (do this with the drive un-plugged) when you then re-boot and plug it in all should come right!

Windows Server trying to boot from external hard drive

go into your 'update settings'. there is a section of where it asks you about how you want your settings set and where to send updates to. You may find the problem here. Check all the 'advanced' settings as well. If your Western digital is plugged in via USB and not requiring updates, unplug it while starting your system, after complete start up, reinsert the USB plug. It may show new devise found, then from here, you may be asked to reinstall it to stop the rebooting.

WDElements External Hard Drive -- Can't Boot w/o disconnecting it

Your computer is trying to boot from the drive. Go into your system BIOS and you should find a menu called "Boot Options" or something similar. Once there, deselect "USB Boot" from the list.

Peace.
