EZeroDivide problem When I try to open WinAvi program, the program takes a long time to try to open and ends up coming up with a little window with 'EZeroDivide' written in it and a OK button. When I click on the OK button the program shuts down.

Try disabling in startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig > Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running.

This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when you initiate.

My Toshiba laptop only opens up Windows Vista 1 out of maybe 10 attempts. The power light comes on but just has a black screen. I think the processor is going out but it's only 2 1/2 years old.

It's time to take the computer to a qualified technician, to check:
* the RAM ("bad" RAM causes big problems),
* the disk-drive ("bad" sectors can imply that the whole disk is about to expire),
* the CPU (very rare for one to go "bad'),
* the motherboard (leaking capacitors cause voltage fluctuations, which cause "random" crashes).

Before you go, try to backup all your "data" and "music" and "E-mail" files to an external disk-drive.

Upgrading video card

This will all depend on what the motherboard of your computer will except. There are three ways or types of cards to install. PCI (Oldest) AGP (Old but Good) and PCI-Express x16 (New and Best).

When you go to you local electronics store and look at video cards, the box will indicate which type of card is in the box.

If You open your computers access panel, you will see the ports in which have to upgrade your pc. PCI is usually white. AGP is usually brown and PCI-Express is usually black, blue or yellow. If you have your model number of you PC, you can go to their website and find the specs of the PC to find which ports you have.

Hint: If you take the panel off and have a flashlight, the ports on the inside are labeled. The print is always white in color and very small print, so it may be hard to read.

If all else fails, open the panel on your computer, take a good, close, bright picture and email it to me and I will let you know what you got to work with. Or, having the model number of your pc or motherboard will help aslo!

As far as installing the video card, very simple granted you know what type of card to put in.

If needed, you remove the old one and pop the new one in. When windows loads and says it has found new hardware, you can tell windows to look for drivers on the internet. If that doesnt work, the video card will come with a CD. Pop that bad boy and follow the on-screen-instructions when the setup program starts.

Running graphics c++ programs in TC++

TC++ is 16-bits and 16-bits programs are not fully Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 compatible. Windows emulates the older 16-bits environment using "NVTDM", but direct hardware access is (by design) still not possible (which is - besides unhandled program exceptions - the main cause for such error messages).

The only - structural - solution is to get a more modern 32 bits C++ compiler instead of TC++. You can find a list of free 32 bits Windows compilers here:

You might have to adapt the existing C++ code a little to the new compiler you choose.

When you really want to continue using TC++ you could use try the free "DOSBox" emulator (which has pretty accurate DOS emulating,. much better than Windows itself) or create a virtual machine with DOS or Windows 3.11 ...

Add/remove programs want opening on my pc

Populating the list could take ages, you should leave it for at least 5 minutes.
Instead of using the windows utilities, try CCleaner ( Its a great utility for cleaning useless things off your computer like temporary internet files and logs. Also supports registry error cleaning and Supports Uninstall and Startup.

You may have damaged the drive by dropping it or bumping it while writing data. You may have Placed it near a strong Magnet or a Virus has infected it and destroyed the file system.
Inside one of those drives is a 2.5" Hard drive. You could take it to a data recovery shop and see what they could do for you.
Hope this teaches you a lesson: Always have 2 copies of your files.

Upgrading my PC

You will want to bump the RAM up to at least 512mb. This will drastically increase the speed of the machine. Also, download CCleaner from, this is a cleaning program that will get rid of excess junk the slows the computer. Everything else is good.

no, but why not ask La Cie? They have pretty good support, and if your computer isn't recognizing it, you can feed them all the information they need by downloading a freeware program called Balarc advisor, which not only tells you everything in your computer, with model numbers for hardware and all of your software (with their unique codes), but will also inform you if you are missing any needed Windows updates. Once you know what you have, go to You may need to download something from them for your poswerbook different from your g5..
