SOURCE: Whirlpool top loader 9 kg - I can't see any serial no.

There are no lint filters on this machine. The lint is pumped out with the water. There may be a restriction in the drain line starting where it connects to the tub or the small drain holes in the inner tub may be clogged.

SOURCE: Leaves white marks on coloured clothes

I'd try putting the machine on a hot fill wash, max water level put in half a cup of baking soda when the machine starts to washer turn it off and leave it to soak overnight, then let it finish the cycle the next day. Also make sure you tip some of the hot water down the beach dispenser and clean all around the top of the machine

Cheers

SOURCE: washer leaves trash on clothes when finished. has

It sounds as if there is a soap buildup in possibly a couple of places and it is coming loose then ending up on your clothing. If you changed brands of soap this can happen also. The soap buildup can be under and inside the agitator. It can manifest itself in large calcium type flakes in the washer when it finally breaks down and you see it. You can remove the agitator by opeing the top of your agitator and removing the retaining biolt then lifting out the agitator. Use a putty knife and scrape off the inside of the wash tub under the agitator. Also take the agitator either outside or to the bathtub depending on weather and scrub it clean on the bottom and on the inside of the agitator. If after all of this you still have that same material show up you may have to remove the wash tub itself and clean the outer tub with a putty knife. There is a special tool that locks into the 4 slots of the tub nut used to remove the tub nut. You can buy it at most appliance part centers. Tell them you need a tub nut removal tool for a kenmore / whirlpool top loading machine and they will walk back and get you one straight away. Good luck andI I hope this resolves your problem.

SOURCE: Black flakes left in washer after cycle. Mold?

This is from not enough HOT loads.

Fatty deposits gather between the basket and tub during COLD washes.

Then they are being released in large numbers when you do your whites on HOT.

It is recommended to do 1 HOT load per week.

Do an empty load with some degreaser added (like Goo-Gone) on the fullest/hottest setting you have.

Clothes have lint on them when the washing cycle is finished is there a lint area i need to clean

The newer Whirlpool top-loaders have lint screens on the inner tub and not accessible. These are supposed to self-clean during the drain cycle. I've heard that liquid fabric softener and detergent build-up may clog the screens when lint sticks to the gooey screens. Try something that will cut the goo like vinegar or ammonia in a small load level without clothes. Without clothes in the washer, that is.

Older Whirlpool washers have lint filters located above the tub, on the lid opening.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

I bought the Whirlpool Duet to replace my old standard washer & dryer and I find that the wash time is longer than the old washer. Even the quick wash takes about 1 hour. Am I doing something wrong...

I assume from your comment that your old washer was a top loader. Yes, front loading machines typically have longer cycle times than top loaders. There are several contibuting factors... first of all, the wash action of a front load is to oscillate the drum back and forth as well as provide a slow tumbling motion whereas a top loader w/ agitator or impeller has a more aggressive action. The more aggressive action rolls and tumbles your clothes more often and therefore cleans faster. Also, because front loaders spin very fast (up to twice as fast as top loaders) to reduce the amount of moisture left in the clothes, they need to have balanced loads. They accomplish this by testing and rebalancing your load several times during each cycle before beginning to spin.

That was a long answer to your question- no, you are not doing anything wrong.

Good luck.

Your question is not easy to answer. An average washing machine is 8 kg. The smaller 6 kg will use less water and detergent, but you will be limited to 4 or 5 pair of jeans at one time...unless your children are small. A front loading machine may be a better choice for you. It can do very large loads, 12 kg, and still use less water and detergent than most top loaders, but be prepared to pay three times the price of a top loader.

Water usage per cylce

water usage is about right. top loaders use far more and so does hand washing
only way there would be excessive water usage is if machine were overfilling

Lint or soap residue

Sounds more like a build-up of particles that may very well be in the water supply. There is something that you can try to get rid of these particles.

1. With the machine empty start it in normal eash mode and let it fill. Add 1/2 cup bleach to the water and let the machine run completely through the wash cycle. This will help remove any unseen stains or build-up.

2. When the machine drains and begins to refill on the next cycle, add 1/2-1 cup of white vinegar and again, let the machine finish its' cycle.

3. Run the machine through the wash cycle one more time to remove any vinegar that may have been left behind.

This is not a guaranteed method but I have had some success.
