Gateway GM5626 would not start, replaced Power Supply; then Mother Board would beep once but not boot, replaced Mother Board; Mother Board lights are on, when power switch is pressed, the fan moves a little but that is it. Did I install power sw cable wrong? Bad Power Switch?
The scope's pretty big! Are both power connectors in there, plus the ones to the videocard? How about a fan plugged into each of case and CPU (heatsink fan?) Videocard seated nicely? Memory and CPU looking neatly seated? Keyboard and mouse installed as previously? Maybe the CMOS battery has a jumper by it, that you need to move to get it into operation (vs. shipping) mode? The scope's pretty big! Bad power supply first, or just the switch. The mother board will keep it from posting, but lights should come on. a bad power supply or switch it will be dead like fred. If your handy there are many tutorials on diagnosing a power supply on the internet. Usually when it is the mother board there will be a few beeps or flashing lights then a shut down, or frozen pc on boot then death. But all these symptoms can come from a dead or dying power supply. http://www.overclock.net/t/96712/how-to-jump-start-a-power-supply-psu-test-a-power-supply-and-components Do this at own risk..
some powersuplay comes with 2 extra connectors a 4pin based switch connector and a alternate power supply for the fan...you must to be sure if it is comatible......check the model and search on google for compatibility ...
A good place to start is to find the reset jumper on the mother board and jumper it. Next you can try disconnecting everything attached to the mother board except the cpu and the heat sink fan. Turn the computer on and you should get a post error beep. If your computer stays running then you will want to attache everything one piece at a time starting with your the keyboard and mouse then the video card so you can see the POST (power on self test) on the screen. Keep adding components until it stops and you have found the problem. If this doesn't solve your problem, you should test your power supply. A bad power supply can and has caused the same problem. If you can't find a detailed test procedure for the PS let me know and I will give you the steps. The cpu power on is dependent upon getting proper voltage from the PS. Good luck.
remove all components like hard drive, cd/dvd ,memory and video card.
start system if you get beeps then the motherboard is responding.
add the memory and start system again. If it starts add hard drive.
What we are doing is testing to see which hardware here has failed.
Could be power supply, unplug every thing from the board, remove all drives, cards everything but the mem. turn it on, if you get some beeps, add your Hard drive. The power supply may not have the guts it take to run all the peripherals it used to, this test will tell you if its the board or power supply.
Ok, this is a mother board issue. the entire mother board seems to be malfunctioning. the blinking amber/green light is confirming this. the mother board may have some fried circuitry and it will have to be replaced in this situation.
I would recommend extracting the mother board and stripping it. look for any discoloring factors that will lead to a burn out location. this will direct you to the necessary repair zone.
It can be different problems, Battery, Power bottom not working, or better the mother board is bad. I really want you to connect your lap top to the power supply and check if there are lights on the indicated it is working. If there is light or lights on try to turn on your computer and pay really close attention for any noise or beeps. Then let me know what you came up with and I can get you pc to work. Later JUCEPEU
are u having any beeps at all if not unplug the power supply cord and look at the wires that go from the power supply to the mother board and plug the powercord back into the powersupply and try to start the pc if the powersupply still does not start the fusible link in the power supply probably has blown depending on what kind of power supply you have some of these fuses are replaceable as long as they are not soldered i just replaced the one for my dell saved about 130 bucks please keep me posted on this if you get anywhere ok best regards mike
