To test camera download AmCap utility (use Google to find it).
Vista does not have any way to test camera by itself!

I see the word hp webcam at the top of my laptop...hp pavillion dv 6000 but wen i go to quickplay i don't see the device...wen i look at the device list it is not listed

On the My Computer properties window, click on the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
Click on the plus ( +) sign next to Imaging Devices and locate the webcam item in the device list.
If the webcam is not listed, do the following activities to install the driver using the webcam driver recovery.
Click Start, click All Programs, click PC Help & Tools, and then click HP Application Recovery.
Select Driver installation and click Next.
Select the HP Webcam 1000 driver from the list, and click Install.
If the webcam is listed under Imaging Devices but there is a red X on the icon, the webcam is disabled. See figure below.

How does the web cam work on the HP pavilion dv 9000

Hi,

You need to have the program that runs the webcam.
Look in Start/All programs. And if you have the webcam launch applet.
Also look in the device manager. ( My computer/Control Panel/ System/Device Manager. )
And see if you have any devices with problems ( yellow Mark ) this will tell you if it,s drivers are installed correctly. If not download those drivers. Re-install Them, And re-boot computer.

Thankyou for using Fixya.

Notebook built in camera

If the webcam drivers are installed, you should be able to find it listed under Imaging Devices.

If not, you should find it listed as USB Webcam under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in the Device Manager.

However, first of all, you can try installing the webcam preview application which can be downloaded from the link below :

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35414.exe

Download and install the application after which you should get a icon to access and find if the webcam of the Notebook is working or not..

Please be informed that if you install a retail version of Operating System in your Notebook, you will loose the Preinstalled Quick Play application with which you should be able to use the webcam.

However, you can try using Cyberlink Youcam application that is provided with all the latest HP Notebooks for using the Webcam with and can be downloaded from the link below :

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39372.exe

Save and double click the file to install the application.

Try the instructions available in the link below to test the webcam using youcam application :

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01414839&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

Additionally, if you are using the webcam with any Messengers, you can try the instructions in the links below :

Cant turn my built in webcam on??

Hi,

This is known Webcam issue in DV6000 notebooks. To resolve or narrow down the issue, we have to check few things.

First open Device Manager.

Please follow these steps to open Device Manager:

1. Right Click on 'My Computer' icon on Desktop and choose Properties.
2. The System properties Window opens.
3. Click Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.

Expand + Imagining Devices and check if the HP Webcam is listed under it.

If Webcam is not listed there, then you have to contact HP to get the BIOS update.

If it is listed there, right click on it and select Disable. Again right click on it and select Enable.

Now open any applications like Quickplay and check if Webcam is working or not.

Please reply me if that won't resolve the issue, I can provide more work arounds
