Try this:

1.on computer, open Internet Explorer
2.On the address bar, type 192.168.1.1
3:Once it prompts you for a username and password , do not type anything on the username and type "admin" on password
4.Once you are on the page, click on "wireless" tab
5.Look for Wireless Network Name (SSID) and if it’s still set to ‘linksys’ change it to something unique then click Save Settings.
6.After changing your SSID, try changing channels to get around interferences. Preferred channels to use are 1, 6 and 11 since they are considered non-overlapping channels.

I can't get into my linksys router settings page from internet explorer

Try 192.168.0.1 or .2 or .3 or keep trying other numbers.

If you have the original CD, give that a try. If you dont, get the software from www.linksys.com/support.

Want something cool to use for this? Try the free to evaluate Network Magic at http://www.purenetworks.com/nmlp/home-networking.php?gclid=CP_ApJ6-u54CFQk75QodVR5clw&src=google&kw=network+magic+download

Read the deal while you are there at the page.

Be aware Linksys and Network Magic are both Cisco products.

I hope this helps

My laptop wont connect to my wireless router, but my desktop which is directly connect will?

You wirless switch has to be turned on for that to work. If that is not the issue then sometimes it it best to plug it in to the router and set it up that way. the computer already recognizes the computer and it finds it easier to set up the wirless.

If you want to make it real easy to manage your computers and the internet. Download a network manage ment program. I will help you connect you computers to the internet and much more. Network Magic Pro or Network Magic Essentials $30-$50.

I hope i have given you information that has helped you.
Thank you for the chance to help as well...

components of a home network include some kind of service (broadband or dial up) a modem, a router (wire or wireless) and computers.

If the computers are wireless, you use a wireless router. You can mix wire and wireless, obviously..

If you do this, the routers should be peer to peer (dont use the up link on the downstream device. ) One device must be plugged into the modem ... on that device, use the uplink.

If you are looking for a software package to manage your network magic, free to download and evaluate, After the free period you pay $ or continue to use the package but with fewer features.

NM is excellent with diagonostics, device sharing, security and tacking intruders as well as a lot of other things. I use the paid pro version.

Cannot share files/folders with home network...

Bill,

I understand the frustration and I will try not to add to it. I did a bit of searching and found one thread on another forum that was similar to your situation. This person said the following:

The solution was simple:

I was running NORTON 360.

Under firewall settings; disable personal firewall.

Once this is done, access is allowed to the host pc.

You can then set your permissions, create network paths and map network drives like you would normally do.

Bill, I can't tell you this will solve the issue but it did for this person.

Good luck

I tried to connect netgear WG111v2 but got problem istallation is not able to connect wirelesly

Uninstall any software the router came with on any of the computers, it's not needed.

Reset the router by holding down the small pinsized hole in the back for 20 seconds.

Make sure modem is hooked up to router IN port.

Make sure all Windows updates are installed in a PC.

Make sure wireless card switch is in the on position.

DO NOT encrypt anything at first, try connecting under an open network. Meaning do not change any of the routers factory settings. If you can connect, continue form here to encrypt. Hope this helps!!!!

I need to hook up and start using a wireless router, can i get some help starting?

hi licking;
what type of wireless router are you using? a linksys? or a dlink?
do you have color coded cables?

try this:
from your modem(the box given to you by your isp), connect a cable from your modem LAN port to the WAN port of your wireless router.

If your going to connect a pc wired to your wireless router, you can connect a cable from your wireless router LAN port to your lan card of your PC.

give more details and ill be happy to help you. :)
