Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

No input signal

I have an Apple G4 and after 6 years of faithful reliable service, just recently what has started happening is after switching on the computer it boots up normally but then after a few seconds the monitor screen goes blank and the message "No input signal" appears, then the screen switches back to normal, then goes blank again with the same message. The computer never crashes or freezes, but the screen goes blank back and forth. Then the screen settles into a strange fuzzy picture with the normal lettering ie File Menus etc becoming oversized!

Check connections, Hertz rate, and settings (if you can read them). Otherwise, it may be time to whip out the cash and get a new monitor and/or computer.

Not detecting right channel audio input

First make sure the connections are on the correct places. Audio is white and red, not yellow, right channel is red. Then swap the left and right cables, to see if the signal on the left cable input is now heard on the right channel. This will tell you if the input signal on the right cable is missing or if the internal handling of the right signal is bad.

Make sure your monitor is set up to recieve what ever signal you are wanting via the monitor's menu. There should be an input button on the monitor to select the signal type. The connection really doesn't matter as long as you are able to use the monitor. There could be something wrong with the connector on the video card. Also make sure you are using the card and are not using the onboard graphics connection by mistake. If the problem persists it is more than likely the card.

VGA connection works, DVI does not

Everything seems perfectly normal...

When you connect the computer to the monitor via an analog VGA cable, you get signal on the analog input.
When you connect them via a DVI cable, you feed the monitor's DIGITAL input, so the monitor doesn't get any signal on it's analog input, and informs you about it.
You have to select the digital input from the monitor's On Screen Menu, and then start the computer up - you should see the picture OK.
Also remember to set the display resolution on your computer to match the optimum (native) resolution of your monitor - this will give you optimum picture quality. In case of VA712B it will be 1280x1024.
Good luck and please come back with a testimonial if helped.

your card is probably overheating. the alphadog editon has an extremly small cooling for the gpu. try cleaning it with a caned air spray and check the NVIDIA control panel to see the temp. of the GPU if the problem is solved try running a game benchmark to see if that works.

Have you tried your card on another machine? One thing i have seen in several forums (though i have not come across it personally) is that if you run your VGA card with a PSU thats not powerful enough, the PSU may get busted but usually the graphic card due to being stressed running underpowered fails. Hence the reason why i inquired if you had tested your graphic card on another machine to see if the same symptoms occur.

If it does not happen you can then know its a problem related to the power supply, as the power supply capacitors too degrade over time, and hence they might not be giving the same power as before. Dell power supply units have been known to work well beyond there stated wattage compared to the generic systems (Some case dell 250W unit seems to run better than generic 400W units).
