I upgraded an old Toshiba 1800-S253 laptop to a clean install of Win 2000. I followed the instructions from the mfg website and downloaded the correct drivers, but the video driver does not seem to be compatible. The unit will freeze up after the driver is installed.

Well, win xp is absolutly more fun as OS then win 2000:)
To upgrade to win xp will be no problem since Toshiba have drivers for ir. To upgrade to VISTA will...or can give you problem since there arent any drivers for that Tecra S1.
I just replaced my original CD/DVD ROM with a Toshiba SD-R2512 CD-RW/DVD ROM in my 1805-S253 running Windows ME. I used "Roxio Easy CD Creator" for writing to CD's. Everything was "plug'n'play" except the bezel that came with the new drive had to be swapped out. Windows ME recognized the new drive immediately and I didn't have to load any new drivers. This upgrade will probably work on other 1800 or 1805 Satellite series machines.

You will not be able to register it as it is alread registered to the other computer, unless they are exactly alike. Then using a hard drive backup and restore program is the best and easiest way to do it.
Just back up the date from the XP on the restore it to the 2k one. Again .This wil only work if they are exactly alike, down to the CPU type plus.
