Question about Insignia Digital-to-Analog Converter for Analog TVs

Convertor box and Sony Wega with PIP (2 Tuners) and new Digital DVR/VCR

I have a splitter and the TV and VCR are hooked up separately. The DVR and TV are hooked up together with RCA (red, white and yellow) cables. Tried to hook up brand new Zenith901 converter. Tried to hook up the Converter to the antenna and hook up to TV via RCA cables (there are 3 sets of inputs on TV). Tried to connect converter and TV with coax. The results give me no signal for channel 3 on both (I'm in NY). When I hook up the converter to the TV with coax it will make both PIP go snowy on channel 4 when I turn off the Zenith 901 convertor box. The biggest problem was that I do not get any setup and cannot use the menu or any buttons on the remote. So I don't have any digital stations with the convertor. The DVR/VCR has found alot of digital stations but not the convertor. Do you have an idea how I can make this work?

No cable just a roof antenna. The converter won't do a settup. I tried with just the coax and then with just the RCA cables. It shows no signal on channel 3 and channel 4 shows the analog channel 4 but when i shut off the converter box the channel 4 goes to snow.
The converter has not done a setup..how do I make it do that?
How do I use the buttons that say menu and guide. When I press a button nothing happens.
How do I tell the box what I am using and how to set up the digital stations?

I also would like to watch one station or two and record another.

I have a similar problem with my RCA DTA800B1 converter and Magnavox analog TV. TV is not very old.

However, the converter does not bring up the menu and the remote does not seem to work. I cannot control any of the channels.

Interestingly, I had tried it with another RCA converter (7766 model) and noticed the same problem.

    Any help is appreciated.

I wonder if the RF interference from the digital tuner. That box will only allow ouput either through the coax or the AV ports. If you do both you will not get a picture.

If you switch them you have to tell the box what your using for output by going through the setup process.

Is the Zenith 901 converter box for your cable TV.

If your VCR/DVR is finding digital stations, why do you need the digital tuner?

The digital tuner is the Zenith 901 that you bought?

Let me know and then I can check the manual out.

The TV requires two inputs to use the PIP function. Your setup box Has multiple outputs, but the same picture comes out of all of them. The only way you can use PIP in your TV is to split the signal and connect it to both the set-top box and the TV. However; you will not receive the additional channels that the setup box picks up unless you use 2.

Some set top boxes already have PIP built in. If it does you can view a PIP display even if your TV does not have that feature. Because the cable box has 2 tuners built in they are designed to do two different things at one time. If yours has PIP capability they will proudly and prominently tell you about it in the instruction manual..

Can not get pip to work

Pip has its own tuner, try getting a cable splitter to split the signal into the tv. If you have digital cable you may need a second cable box to do this. If your cable provider still sends an analog signal the splitter will work.

Screen looks like a picture negative, PIP works fine, sound fine

Sony's have dual tuning systems to allow for the separate PIP channel. The common problem on the Sony's is the circuit board and tuning module connections go bad. It is likely that the connections on the board or module were already in the decayed process and moving it just accelerated the issues that were inevitable.

The quick fix is to swap the PIP over to the main picture or to bus the antennae signal to the antennae B terminal thus bypassing the bad tuner module.

The recommended fix action is to have someone with soldering skills to remove the chassis, and locate all the cold and cracked solder joints, especially near the tuning modules. If this does not take care of the problem, the tuning modules will need to be removed for re-soldering on the actual tuner modules.

If none of the above works, then you can always use the audio/video outputs of a cable box or vcr to the a/v jacks of the tv, thus bypassing both tuners in the tv.

Which converter box can you still use the picture in picture function in your tv?

yOUR SET HAS 2 TUNERS WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO USE THE PIP FUNTION. IF TRYNG TO USE A HD CONVERTER BOX YOU WILL NEED 2 BOXES ON FOR THE MAIN TUNER INPUT AND THE OTHER FOR THE PIP INPUT.

Hooking up a convertor , when i have a vcr, dvd player

You can hook it up through the antennae system. Keep your dvr connected to the tv the way you had it. Hook up your TV rabbit ears antennae to the converter box in the connection on the left side of the box. Then hook up the antennae lead from the converter box to your TV on the right side connector. The only thing I'm wondering is, do you get stereo sound this way and does anyone know how to get it without hooking up the separate audio and video plugs? There aren't enough connections on the tv to hook up both sets.

Digital to analog converter box to tv/vcr combo

You will need a splitter and an rf modulator to do timed recording of programs. The instructions are on the dtv answers website, option # 2, record and watch a different channel. The recording is for the analog stations 1-24. You cannot record the higher stations. The items I purchased were a 3 way splitter $7 at local hardware store, an rf modulator $25 at Radio Shack. The other option was to get a cable box for the tv and record off of that at $6.95 a month or a DVR for $8.99 per month, all from comcast. The price that I paid for the items I needed would be repaid in 3 months if I were to go the comcast route. The conversion is nothing more than a money making scheme for them.

The Scientific Atlanta box was a cable box and recieved CATV signals. The Direct TV box is satellite only. You might check if it has a built in ATSC tuner for off air digital signals. Direct TV in most locations offers the major networks in HD format.

VCR DOES NOT WORK WITH NEW CABLE BOX

If you can get some of the stations without the box (often the case for those who subscribe to digital cable or movie channels), then one setup is to split the raw cable and feed the box and the TV, then have the box feed the VCR and hook up the VCR composite video and line level audio outputs to the TV. The VCR tuner would always be set to the VHF frequency your cable box RF output is on, usually ch. 2, 3 or 4. This setup allows PIP to work, with the TV tuner limited to unscrambled analog stations, and it also allows you to tape anything coming through the box, while watching unscrambled analog stations on the TV. However, it requires the VCR to be on and the TV set to the external video input to simply watch what is coming through the cable box. There are other ways to set this up with more flexibility using splitters and A/B switches, or you can look for a special switch box that handles the job. The above assumes your TV has composite video and line level audio inputs. The only way to have full flexibility to watch any scrambled or unscrambled station at the same time as taping a scrambled station is to have 2 cable boxes. The only way to have your VCR control the cable box and record different programs by switching the box by itself is to have a VCR with a cable box controller, also known as a cable "mouse". Hope this helps
