Question about Garden

1 Answer

My Husqvarna 440e has a flat spot in the acceleration and it's not ideling properly. It starts well and runs good for about 1 minute before the flat spot begins. The chainsaw mechanic has attempted to fix it, and have made it better than it was, but it's still not 100%.

This is a carb settings issue, there is a special tool required to adjust the mixture screws, in the US there are strict guide lines on emmisions so the mechanic may not be willing to richen the mixture too much.

This is most likely the tool you need, Poulan splined carb tool:

Sometimes the adjusting screws have plastic limiter caps over them and it is not always possible to get the carb adjusted right with those caps on, so the caps can be pulled straight off with needle nose pliers or similar, and you can use the carb tool then and adjust it yourself.

But removing the limiter caps will void manufactures warrenty, so do at your own risk.

My Husqvarna starts but won't accelerate when you pull the trigger, acts like the brake is on but the handle is in the free position.

It may be running very rich, make sure the air filter is clean, if ok. check the spark arrestor in the muffler outlet ( if fitted ) has not carboned up, if ok, check the exhaust port is not blocked with carbon.

Husqvarna 365 backfireing

Check your spark plug for 'whiskering' (tiny strands of carbon collecting across electrodes) and clean and re-gap. If this not the problem, check carburettor fixing to engine - may be drawing air through failed sealing gasket. Good luck!

Since the fuel cap is clear, your symptoms point to a bad Ignition Coil. Even though it it brand new, this could be the problem. I would take it back where you purchased it and tell them how it is acting . You may even suggest that you think it's a bad Coil. A new coil could cost you $40, but I sure wouldn't pay for it! I'd make them pay for it.

Good Luck!

I would like to get the proper settings for my low and high fuel jet screws on my 371k chain saw motor

theres no exact setting to use. and they are high and low air screws. the small flat head screw by the throttle lever on the carb is for fuel. but the best way to figure it out is to turn both air screws all the way in and the back out 2 and 1/2 turns. that a good starting point. from there adjust the low with the saw ideling till it sound good and the adjust the high with the throttle wide open till it sounds good.

Have cleaned carburetor and need to know the proper way to adjust the carburetor now

You did not say what machine this is, however most carbs will run on a basic setting of 1 1/4 on the L and 1 on the H screw, now start the saw and warm up, start screwing the L screw in, the revs will increase as the mixture weakens, when the saw reaches its peak and starts to die because its too weak turn the screw out 15 minutes on a clock face, check the saw accelerates well with no flat spot, if need be turn out a little more until it does, now adjust the idle screw so as it idles well without the chain moving around the bar, the H screw is a govener so the more you screw it in the faster it goes, you realy need to check this with a tachometer it should nor exceed 12500 rpm

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, inspect the burn colors of the sparkplugs. If they are very light in color, then it would indicate a lean mix

Offhand, a lean mix and the flat spot would both indicate an air leak; too much air, too little fuel. Either or both could be caused by a torn or out of position air filter or the air box not properly sealed. Aftermarket free air breathers/filters such as those by K & N and/or non-stock exhaust could also cause lean mix/flat spot if the carbs were not re-jetted. In some instances, the needle height might require adjustment.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Husqvarna chainsaw 440e - enough chain lube?

That seems low to me. Page 15 in your manual is the only oil discussion I found. Usually there is an oil pump adjustment reference somewhere. I didn't see one beyond return it for service on page 15. Are the chain and bar hot after cutting a while? I recommend you not get a longer bar without an oiler adjustment. I think the hand of the EPA has been here.

An IPL (exploded parts list) for a 440 can be found here:
There is no oiler adjuster listed. HTH
Might be a good idea to copy the IPL,
