Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Kenmore washer, less than 5 years old. No cold water. I suspect the water valve, but I can't figure out how to remove the cabinet to get at it and check it.

I would never have found the spring-clips under the console of my top-load washer. They used to be under the cabinet top, and the whole top popped off. I knew what I needed to do, but would probably have broken something else trying to get inside to do it.

Good tip, along with incredibly fast response time! Saturday evening, and I had an answer in less than half an hour. Awesome! Thanks!

You could very well be right. If this is a Kenmore top loader, the following link explains how to replace a water inlet valve. Included are the instructions for removing the cabinet.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r600647-replacing_water_inlet_valve_kenmore

If this is a Kenmore front loader, all you have to do is remove the top panel. This is accomplished by removing the three screws in the rear the hold the top panel in place. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off.

I hope this helps you. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

Why is there only hot water going in the washing machine?

the cold water valve is stuck shut inside washer.
Servicing Water Inlet ValvesIf the washer won't fill or fills very slowly, if it overfills, or if the water is the wrong temperature, the water inlet valves could be faulty. These components are easy to locate and very easy to replace, at little cost. When you suspect an inlet valve is faulty, first check to make sure the water faucets are fully turned on and properly connected to the hot and cold inlets of the valves. Then check the screens in the valves; if they're clogged, clean or replace them. If water doesn't enter the tub, set the temperature control to the HOT setting. If there is no water, set the control to the WARM setting. If all that comes out is cold water, the hot-water inlet valve is faulty. Reverse the procedure to test the cold-water valve, setting the control first on COLD and then on WARM. If the tub overfills, unplug the washer. If water still flows into the tub, the valve is stuck open. In any of these cases, the valves should probably be replaced. To check the valve assembly:

how-to-repair-a-washing-machine-2.jpg

Step 1: Remove the back service panel and disconnect the hot-water and cold-water hoses to the valves.

Step 2: Remove the hoses connected to the valves inside the cabinet. Also disconnect the wires from the terminals. Back out the screws holding the valves to the machine. The inlet valves have solenoids (a coil of wire that carries a current) inside the housing. These can be tested, but chances are the valves are simply worn out.

Step 3: Tap the solenoids with a screwdriver handle. If this doesn't work, replace the entire inlet valve assembly. Repairs usually cost more than a new part. Make sure the replacement valve assembly is exactly the same type as the old one. Install it in reverse order of the way you disconnected the old one.

Hot water does not shut off

Hi,
The problem is with the water valves.

For a quick fix just shut off the water hot and cold faucets connected to the washer. The problem is you water valve is bad and they can drip or downright just run wide open. A water valve is less than 20 bucks and east to replace. If it is a newer model then the cabinet is removed easily from the washer exposing the innards and it is an easy fix. If it is an older model Kenmore then you need to pop the top to get to the valve. In both cases the water hoses will need to be removed from the valve, unplug the harness and take the 5/16 screws loose and replace it with a new one. This should be an easy fix.
Type in your model number and look for your valve. http://panhandleparts.com/default.aspx

Kenmore Series 70 washing machine whines and low flow on cold H2O

Yeah you need to replace the water valve. To get to it you need to remove the cabinet on the newer direct drive models, If yours has a rear access panel then you simply pop the top to get to the valve after removing the hoses. Fairly simple job. Here is a good website for direct drive coupling replacement . It shows you how to open the cabinet. http://repair2000.com/coupling.html
GVI 151 is the generic part that fix all belt drive models. Direct drive will need its own little water valve buy hay it ain't but 20 bucks.
For a better explanation post you model number in the comment box and I will research it further for you amigo.

Kenmore washer

Disconnect cold water hose from machine. Inspect the filter screen on the cold water connection. DO NOT REMOVE SCREEN. If full of debris, use a spray bottle with a hard spray to remove debris. If unable to remove or cold is still slow, replace valve. As far as the spin is concerned, inspect the bottom of the gearcase for oil. If oil is present, the oil has migrated to the clutch causing it to slip during spin.

Kenmore 110.92274100 Rear Panel Access - Cold Water Problem

the top panel comes off via 2 screws that hold control panel on
once this done yuo can lift the whole hob and front and side panel to expose the workings
the cold water valve has a filter inside the water entry so to check this just take off the hose to the machine and look inside hole
if this is ok then you may need to replace water inlet valves
i presume you have high pressure water if not buy valve that is for low water pressure
