How does it work what do I do to operate it

Read the instruction manual and then after you understand that turn it on and set it accordingly. 35% for the humiodity might be a good starting pint.

It has a refrigeration system that blows room air across the evaporator coil then across the condenser coil. The evaporate coil gets cold causing moisture to condense and eventually drip into a collection device.

I bought the FriedrichD50. It worked fine in 2 weeks with the built in pump. After I disconnected the drainage by using the bucket, no water comes out. Does it make sense the machine runs 2 days straight...

Yes, it does make sense, depending on what humidity extraction level you have it set on. Set to high, it will will remove little to low condensation/humidity. Set it to 35% or if you have an analog model (no LED screen) set the humidity extraction knob on Maximum Also, be sure that the air intake filter is clean.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My machine runs but it does not gather any water even though I know the humidity in the room is high. The humidity displays 60% room and it will not decrease to 35% set, even though the machine is running...

There are 5 basic, but solvable reasons for what you described. Of these 5 you have already completed 2 of them.

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen

I hope this helps you to further troubleshoot & solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My dehumidifer is not drawing any water, but the fan continues to run.

There are several reasons this may be happening. The 2 primary reasons are the humidity extraction level is set to high. Lower it to 35% . The lower the setting, the more moisture/humidity is extracted from the air. The higher the setting, the less if any moisture. humidity will be extracted from the air.
On most humidifiers the fan runs almost constantly while in operation. The idea is to continually move the air around and when the unit senses a rise in humidity, above what you have it set on, the compressor will turn ON to extract that humidity.

The 2nd thing that causes the problem is a dirty of clogged intake air filter. Which is easily solved by removing and cleaning the filter. Which should be done at least every 2 weeks, while the dehumidifier is in operation.

I said there were 2 reasons. Actually, there is a 3rd. Not enough clear air space all around the dehumidifier. A minimum of 12" should be maintained during operation.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

What is the proper setting to take the moisture out of the basement?

The lowest setting that the unit shows on the LCD screen. Usually 35 to 45% is the best setting for a basement. However, if the ambient room temperature at floor level is between 40 and 60 degrees F, it may struggle a bit or the coolant coils may frost over a bit. If this is the case (air temperature, wise), get the unit up off the floor on to something that is sturdy and can handle the weight and vibration of the compressor running.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

A large block of ice formed over the entire front where the vent is. Basement temp was apprx 64 degrees F, but this model is supposed to operate at lower temps. Discovered after it was running continuously...

35 is way low; why not 50%?

At the cooler temp you may need to also run a small fan or space heater blowing on it.

It is working, but the setting is too low and the temp in the room is too low
