Question about Refrigerators

Danby refrigerator M# DAR452BL does not run - does nothing. PTC starter part #432.45 and Overload protector part # 432.44 have corroded contacts, and 432.45 appears to be broken inside where it plugs into side of compressor. Where can I get these parts, and what is approximate cost? Thanks

Magic Chef Model #MCBR360S just quit working all of a sudden. Any suggestions for solving this problem would be appreciated.

Check the PTC starter component. It is a small ceramic disc inside a plastic housing, attached to the side of the motor. If it is an open state, the motor will not start, If it is shorted, the motor will start, but the overload will trip in just a few seconds. The resistance across the PTC should be around 7 ohms at room temperature. I recently had the same symptoms on my MCBR440. The PTC had some arcing on it. A simple cleaning of the surfaces by scraping with a sharp knife and then reassembling it did the trick.

The resistance across the thermostat in it's running position should be zero. The resistance across the motor overload protector should be zero. The resistance across the motor windings (start, and run) should be just a few ohms. MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE POWER cable before attempting to measure the resistance of any of the electrical components. All of the wiring is easily accessible from the rear.

Not cooling

your ptc overload on your compressor has gone out and needs replacement, locate the compressor and unplug the overload off the compressor and take it to an appliance parts place and purchase the correct replacement ptc overload and plug it back in and your good to go

Danby dkc645bls cools once, then wont kick back on when it starts getting warm.

Your compressor is not starting and in your case you have a thermal induced problem.

I looked for about an hour for parts below on-line with little success. (Danby sourced)

You have 3 possibilites as far as what is causing your problem.

1. PTC start relay / Klixon (2 parts as an assy)
2. Run capacitor

These are not expensive parts even if you ordered all of them.

The sad thing about it is the parts are probably available at your "local" appliance parts store.

If you can look at your compressors' label and copy down the
Manufacturer (i.e Embraco, Mitsubishi Elec, Panasonic etc) and ALL numbers (including LRA)
you can take that info to the local appliance parts supply and walk out with the parts in hand.

Otherwise your looking at calling Danby (number below) and telling them you need a PTC Start relay / Overload and run capacitor.

Danby Refg PTC Starter

you can replace with an supco 3 n 1 for 1/3 1/4 (if run capacitor is used)

or use the combination relay/overload for 1/4 1/3(if there's no run capacitor)
