Question about JVC TH-C30 System

I have a JVC TH-C30 system, the red standby light comes on with power applied, but when I go to turn on the system, the standby light goes out, the system appears to be on, then turns itself off within seconds, and back to standby. I have replaced the 250v fuse but am wondering if this could be a problem with the main board, as I have experienced before with a plasma TV

    I found the fuse solution on another JVC forum - in my experience, always check/replace fuses first. The receiver unit has never shown itself to be overheated. The unit has been off for a few months now since the problem surfaced and has been completely disconnected from the speakers and even "naked", as you put it, the same indications are taking place.

When one reports a fuse replacement it would be helpful to know if that was a Hail Mary wild guess or if the fuse was indeed blown.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

    And we still haven't established if the fuse was indeed blown and could possibly be blown again. The bottom line is the same. Take it to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

JVC TH-C30 dvd movies skip


Check your formatting on the DVD recorder, you need to finalize the disk to be playable on "any" player. That should solve the issue. Your JVC is looking for specific code as it reads the disc, when it's missing or not understood by your JVC it will either stop play or skip over it's interperated missing info. Hope this helps

sharazanct I had the same problem and posted here many months ago without any success. Just today, believe it or not, I decided i would replace the screws in the top cover and try it one last time. I don't know why, but it now works fine.???? My original problem was my receiver would light up and appeared to be working but I would get no sound out of the sub or speakers. I noticed at the time when I would first turn the receiver on the green indicator light on the front of the sub would light for a couple of seconds and then go out and would get no sound. Today the sub light lit and stayed on and I'm therefore able to hear sound as if everything was normal. I wish I knew exactly what I did, unfortunately I don't. If you have everything back together you might try unplugging the receiver and sub for some amount of time and come back and try it again. Good Luck!

If there is no power at all, then try bypassing surge protector, check power cable, and check if power cord is fused.

If unit has power but does not start, then it is on protection.

Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Sub won't stay powered up


well if your getting sound out of your surround speakers then the sub is busted, if your getting no sound at all then your speaker input's are either bad or out... i would test the speaker inputs...

Won't Turn On


Try reseting the system. Instructions below.


DVD reset procedure for TH-A10
1. Make sure there is no Disc in the tray.
2. Disconnect the power cord.
3. While Pressing "Stop" and "Open/Close" buttons together reconnect the power cord
4. Front display will show "TEST0".
5. Then the display will change to : "TEST1 JC2".
6. Press "Enter" button on the remote, display will show "EEPROM"
7. Press "Power" to shut unit off.
8. Reset is finished

After checking this forum and another, I opened the unit, found the ceramic fuse where the power comes in and went to Radio Shack. They have a T1AL250V fuse pack that is a 1 amp, 250 volt, 5 X 20 mm SLOW BLOW glass fuse which is a better fuse for this common problem. Their RS number is 270-1063 and a pack of 4 costs about $3. Put new fuse in and the problem was solved.

The repair took minutes - 3 screws on the back and two screws on each side. Lift the cover from the back (it is slip-hinged on the front) and replace the ceramic fuse. It slips out with a little help and the new one snaps in place.

No power
