Pioneer AVIC-Z2 won't display dvd on rear screen

I am using the Mirror selection. Satellite Directv is on the AV inputs, AV outputs DTV to the rear screen and to the head screen. But when I operate the DVD it appears on the head but not the rear screen. I found I had to ground the av output cable jackets and that worked for a while for outputting the DVD, but then it stopped outputting to the rear, while still plays the video on the head Thank you, Any more ideas? I will try toggling, though, as the sat AV is a new addition, but shouldn't make any difference on mirror mode with AV source off, right?

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

The Sirius menu bar won't go to the rear screen either on mirror. I have the parking brake ground disconnected, reverse camera is activating properly but of course rear camera doesn't display on rear screen.

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

    Rear screen output

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

There are only those tandem red and white outputs, right?

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

    I mean red white yellow

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

    I wish

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

I think you mean which inputs are they hooked up to.. The DVD is internal while the sat is hooked up to AV 1 I believe

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

I have a direct HDMI cable to rear monitor ad a line to head input for TV That all works. My only issue is No mirror function on rear screen for DVD or Head screen functions, with or without SAT hooked up to AV in. Any idea? What is AVBUS?

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

I've tried both sets of left /right / video, rear screen outputs

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

Actually just the (2) video outputs

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

    What is AVBUS?

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

I do realize re: rear pic, cut out on reverse signal

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

There are only the 2 parallel rear screen outlets for any video. They are the same for both the DVD or AV. Both do not output. for either, so what difference does it make? Both are for both, depending on if the DVD is playing, other wise they are both for the AV output of the head.

Of course the parking brake signal is for safety, to block the head display while driving, that's not at issue. It's now hooked up, same problem. I did try toggling to DVD only, A/V only and back to mirror. Please concentrate on the difficult issue I need help on. I put gas in the truck too, so don't worry , .

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

There are not distinct outputs for the dvd or av for the rear screens.Only 2 video outputs labeled rear screen and neither work, ok? No other video outputs

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

The rear screen has auto source so whichever source is active HDMI or RCA composite, that is the source displayed. I set to manual to assure RCA source to test the DVD output and I have used other av displays to verify there is no output for rca composite rear screen outputs from head in mirror mode or any other. Only the head screen is blocked by the parking brake neg. anyway.

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

I think I know the difference between an input and an output. It outputted to the rear screen for 2 years but now it won't .

I have been an licensed electrical contractor for 30 years plus for starters. But thank you for your immense knowledge as an installer. No, I don't want to run 2 video sources at once on the rear screen outputs.

I am looking for the internal solution, within the AVIC-Z2 as to why the unit won't output anything to the rear screens composite RCA jacks, as it once did,

Thanks for the installation instructions, It's already installed correctly.

Are there any techs who have taken apart an AVIC-Z2 or is there an update available that can be downloaded to it to resolve this," no rear screen output" issue? Thank you.

  • vincentsteve May 30, 2011

Very cool idea.... and good call re: edit. It was edited off as that installer was telling me of his immense knowledge installing and that I, a electrical contractor of 30 years didn't know the difference between a input and output. I said it worked for 2 years at that there was no output to the rear screen composite jacks anymore. I think you have the idea as it seems to be internal. I'll try it as I get out this morning and let you know. Thank you.

I think you hit on something as it seems to be a software issue.

  • vincentsteve May 31, 2011

The ladies needed attention yesterday, though I looked for factory rest in settings and didn't see it. I'll print your replies and go out this morning get methodological on that.
I am a little concerned I might lose a possible program defeat I asked a buddy to do for me 3 years ago that might have gone beyond the brake that I don't wish to undo. Was there?

  • vincentsteve May 31, 2011

Do I remember that reset app is on the map side isn't it?

  • vincentsteve May 31, 2011

You the man. I have never used this site, I guess this box is for non posted comments. I've probably stepped on a prior's toes unnecessarily, when he insulted my intelligence. This site is great. I used to decode Sats before Nagra 2 came out, we had forums like this for coolsats.

  • vincentsteve May 31, 2011

I posted a reply that seems to have vanished into the vapor, let see if this posts

  • vincentsteve May 31, 2011

My public replies seem to be deleted now, what's up with that?

  • vincentsteve May 31, 2011

    I try again

  • vincentsteve May 31, 2011

Do you think that a defeat other than the brake thing would be undone by doing a factory reset? I had a shop buddy...

  • vincentsteve May 31, 2011

Thank you. You're great. I'll go with it, then I will deal with the other. I'll let you know.

The settings for your device has some trouble I thinks. Please set it to its Factory Settings and ckeck. To reset it to Factory Settings:

[1] Touch [Settings] in the navigation menu,
then touch [Restore Factory Settings].
[2] Touch [Yes] to clear the current setting
OK.

  • To select a video for rear display, follow these steps.
  1. Press the "AV" button
  2. Touch the "source" icon.
  3. Now touch the "rear screen" option.
  4. Each touch of the "rear screen" changes the settings as listed -
  • Mirror which means what ever is playing on the head unit will also play on the rear screen.
  • DVD which mean the sound and image are transferred to the rear screen.
  • AV the video and sound of the AV input are transferred to the rear screen.

This will get you watching on the rear screen.

Regards, Tony

Which output is the DVD hooked up to? Which output for the DTV?

  • Iron
    Iron May 30, 2011

    • There are some restrictions to the Mirror option.

    • When the TV tuner is connected with AVBUS the video image will can't output.

    • Connect the TV tuner's rear output to rear display directly.

    • There will be no picture on the rear display when in picture adjust for back camera is carried out.

    • Some FYI there.

    • The red and white are sound only. The yellow are video. You will not get any images without the video displayed.

Which output from your head unit are you using to run the dvd signal back to the rear screen? which output from your head unit are you using to send the signal back to the rear screen?

  • Iron
    Iron May 30, 2011

The second part I was asking about the DTV signal. So which output from the head unit for the DVD? and the TV?

  • Iron
    Iron May 30, 2011

    • And hook the parking brake ground back up. That's a safety feature.

  • Iron
    Iron May 30, 2011

    • No, I mean output. You are sending a signal from the head unit to the rear. That's an output source. The rear screen has inputs where the AV cords from the head unit go, depending on what you are hooking up to the rear screen.

    • The DVD is internal, for the main head unit. But you have to run an a RCA from the "rear output" on the head deck.

  • Iron
    Iron May 30, 2011

And also you must have the ground hooked up to the emergency brake or the DVD wont display at all on the main head unit. Or it's not suppose to anyway.

  • Iron
    Iron May 30, 2011

    • So the AV cord will run from your head unit to the rear screen. Then you will set that AV output to "video" by selecting "video" on your head unit. Depending on the source you are using "AV1 or AV2".

  • Iron
    Iron May 30, 2011

    • A bus cable is a type of AV cable. Fist step is you MUST have that ground wire to your emergency brake hooked up. If not you won't get any DVD viewing. This is an un bypassable safety feature set up by the manufacturer. This means that the main head unit will have no screen viewing until the parking brake is on but the rear will. Ground it well for if the connection is sloppy then you will not be able to see DVD on the front unit at all. Please not that the e brake wire effects both the front and rear screen viewing.

    • Second, you have the HDMI set up whic will do you for one output source only. that means if you have this being used for the DTV then the DVD will not work through this cord. Pick one or the other. If I were you I would use a AV "source on the back of the head unit for the DVD and run that to your rear screen and toggle between the two "sources" depending on which you want to view be it DVD "source" or DTV "source"

Let me tell you something. I do this for a living. If you want to crack wise then find another tech. I can tell by the words you don't have a lot of knowledge yet when you address me you address me as if you know whats going on. You don't even know the difference between an output and an input and you want to thrown in a comment about gas in the truck? You cant run the DTV and DVD from the same output CABLE. You need to have them hooked up separate. By your own words you hooked up the DTV and now the DVD don't work.

I installed my pioneer avic z2 DVD/Navi myself and I realized that the wire that connects to the parking break is just a power wire that comes on when u pull the parking break. I think, all you have to do is to connect it to any other power wire that will be constantly provides the on power while driving. I'll try it out tomorrow and let you know!
