SOURCE: Carb linkage hook up

Hello rebel_auto:

>>Send me the Make, Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you.
However, this File may Help.
**The Throttle Cable Attaches to the Throttle Control Bracket. The Cable Moves a Slide that Moves a Pivot. The Pivot has the Spring Attached to it and the Other End of this Spring Attaches to the Governor Arm. The Solid Link Connects to the Governor Arm and goes to the Throttle Shaft on the Carburetor. When the Throttle Cable is Moved it Moves the Pivot and the Pivot Pulls the Spring. The Spring Pulls the Governor Arm and the Governor Arm Moves the Throttle Shaft. Usually the Spring is in the Lower Hole in the Governor Arm and the Solid Link is in the Top Hole of the Governor Arm.**
Please, Do Not Hesitate, If I Missed Something or you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance.
Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Be Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck

SOURCE: need to adjust brake/clutch 14hp craftsman lawn tractor

The brake is on the right side of the transaxle. There are two mounting bolts and one 1/2 nut in the middle that is your adjustment. Tighten it 1/2 turn at a time and hold the brake down and try to roll it until it holds.

1ec7ba32-45ac-4b07-8389-f863014e42da.jpgIt still sounds like a carburation issue. Are you sure all jets, vents and ports in carb are open? Another possibility is that the governor setting is off. The governor is the rod that comes out of side of engine and connects to throttle linkage on carb. To set governor to factory setting, push governor linkage in direction that opens throttle valve, loosen screw on governor arm and turn rod in same direction until it stops, while holding in this position tighten screw on governor arm. This is called a static setting. If this doesn't work I would disassemble carb, remove all plastic and rubber parts and soak in carb dip overnight. Picture may be different from your unit but it shows governor linkage to carb. Good luck and happy wrenching!

These can be tricky, but your on the right track. With throttle set on high (engine off), turn governor linkage in the same direction that opens throttle valve in carb wide open, then turn the governor rod in that same direction then tighten bolt on governor arm. This is a static setting. The high and low idle is most likely a dirty carb so assuming the carb is now clean your idle should be better. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I have a craftman 4 cycle mini tiller, running to slow. need to run at a faster speed. do not where to adjust.

If the carb has the "fixed" throttle control. Find the governor control lever with the small, long coiled spring attatched to it in the middle. It may be hooked to a metal tab that is on the back carburetor bolt. Bend the tab to your left to increase set speed or to the right (towards governor lever) to decrease.

Craftsman917270930 fuel pump not working &do not know how to hook up carb & governor linkage

The fuel pump is part of the carb. It is best to replace the whole thing rather than trying to repair, but your choice and your money. Usually I take digtal photos or at least draw a sketch before tear down of something new so I know how it is supposed to go back together. If you already have it tore down my best suggestion would be to pick up a B & S shop manual and they have some pretty good diagrams in the governors section as to where the linkages should hook up. I've done a bunch of these but can't describe it.

Engine is surging after warmup on a BS 4 hp, no carb adjustment

This problem may SEEM carb related, but it is probably a result of bad linkage to the governor (controls engine speed) and may mean the governor needs adjusting (easy) or the linkage to the governor is stretched or not connected properly.

Why does my lawn tractor tractor rev way up when the throttle is on slow and the choke is off?

There are several things that can cause this.
1. a broken spring on a carb linkage
2. a lean fuel condition due to debris in the carb or a restriction in the fuel line.
3. A worn butterfly on the carb allowing air to be drawn into the carb and increasing fuel flow.
4. A worn or broken spring on the engine governor linkage

Paragraphs 1 - 4 above are the most common reasons. Most of the time this is not an outrageous repair cost. But it is an expense you should incur before things get much worse.

Just my recomendations from working professionally in 3 lawn mower repair shops as a 2nd job.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I will try again here.
1 wire link from the top hole in the governor arm to the throttle on the carb. There should also be a wire link with a spring that goes from the Governor arm to the speed control handle.

There is a governor adjustment on it.Find the governor spring coming from the carburetor the link will lead to a governor spring hooked to a metal tab,by bending the metal tab it will pull the spring tighter making the engine run at a higher rpm
