Either the Govener or Carb need work. a Carb kit is ushally cheap and easy enough to do would start there.

1990 Geo Prizm bogs upon acceleration, idles fine


Bogs.! and dont catch up, say you floor it up a hill and it bogs the whole way in any gear>? is it an automatic or sticK>???????
the 1.6L 4AFE engine? learn what is there first, then fix it.

i can find it in 1 to 10 tests. (gauges/meters)
but top causes. is never doing a tuneup. last decade?
fuel filter packed,
low fuel pressure has 3 causes, ask, 2 tests, and can tell you.
is compression below 150PSI,. or spark timed wrong,
seems you forgot tuneup part for 60,000 miles, the timing belt slipped.
answering for bogs and lean
not misfiring, misfiring is 50 causes. and is violent, not smooth bogs at all.

Slow accelleration


CAR BOGS DOWN COULD BE FAULTY TPS SENSOR, CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS AND CLOGGED FUEL FILTER, STOPPED UP AIR FILTER, FAULTY MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR.BEST BET IS TO HAVE CAR CODE SCAN MANY THINGS WILL CAUSE ENGINE BOG DOWN.HAVE VECHICLE CODE SCAN AND SEE IF YOU HAVE ANY FAULT CODES.MAKE CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.ENGINE NEED TRANSMISSION TO FOR TORQUE AND POWER TO PUT CAR IN MOTION IF TRANSMISSION NOT WORKING OKAY IT WILL PULL DOWN ENGINE POWER.

Engine stalls at 30mph upon hitting accellerator, then coasts to a stop. then won't restart. starter works, engine turns over, but won't fire up. next morning car starts fine. next week...


you may have to check the fuel pump function for pressure and volume when this happens as it could be a bad pump,you could have it checked when working as it could show up something but more likely should be done when it stops running.

After start up,{about 10-mins.] the engine bogs out, No throttle.


i have a 1990 vette doing the exact same thing. i have checked; fuel pressure, replaced fuel filter, checked spark, checked engine vacuum and i still cant seem to get the car to run once it's up to temp. any help on this would be great.
