Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have a Kenmore Model 57577791 refrigerator. It's almost 13 years old. For about 6 months, it hasn't been dispensing water. It makes ice, but constantly freezes up right where the ice goes out the chute, so I'm constantly having to take the ice container out of the freezer and run hot water thru the opening to melt the ice build-up (after I dump all the ice out). Also, If we're able to fix this problem (with your help) and we can get the refrig. to dispense water again, will that water be filled with bacteria because it's been sitting in there so many months not being used. We hope you can give us some suggestions. We can't afford a service call. THANKS!! so long, is the water in the refrig. holding tank just sitting there

Water is only in the line, theres no tank so one cycle will get rid of any old water, then you can just throw those ice cubes away. The way to fix the problem is to replace the solenoid fill valve on the back bottom corner of the refrigerator, Thats the thing the water hose connects to. It has a slow leak that is causing the ice to build up in the tube. Good luck.

Where is the water filter on kenmore coldspot 106.9505712

On the front bottom of your unit you have a grill. On the grill there is a round knob. Turn the knob 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull the filter out. Note the slot on the back of the knob that holds the old filter. Slide the old filter out of the slot and replace with the new filter.
Reinsert the filter with the knob into the filter housing. Turn the knob 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in.
Now, the new filter has air in it. At your water dispenser, fill cups with water. There will be a lot of air and water coming out. Continue this until all of the air is out of the filter and there is just water fill.
When to change your water filter - Your unit has a water filter change light. This light is not tied into water pressure. It is like a egg timer. Every 6 months it will light. This does not mean you need to change your water filter. Change your water filter when your ice cubes start to get small or the water coming out of your dispenser is of a low flow. Depending on your family size, you may not need to change your water filter for several years.

It is definitely the water filter. With the hardness of the water from our county I have to change our filter every 6 months. After replacing the filter be sure that it is seated well. It can leak if it is not fully engaged. Run water through the dispenser until the air is out.

1 year old Kenmore Elite Trio Refridgerator not cooling

There are a lot of things that could be the source of the problem... is there no cooling at all going on in the freezer? Is the back wall of the freezer cold? It could be anything from a fan, to the compressor, to the control board... you need a technician.

I would get on the phone with Sears, and explain the continuing problems you have been having, and they may agree to cover service.

You have a partially plugged drain, causing water to flow too slowly. Try reaming out the drain with a long stiff wire until water flows thru it like a faucet. You may have to unplug the unit for a day to get every part warm enough. Hope this helps!

Kenmore Refrigerator stopped dispensing water

Look up through the ice despencer on the front door of the freezer. Is the flapper door open? If so it needs to be fixed. If its not then try leaving the freezer door open for 3+ hours to defrost the frozen line in the door. If that doesnt work, the water valve must be changed.(located behind fridge, take off back cord board panel at bottom, the valve is blue)... GOODLUCK!

its possible that your water tank has frozen up, try turning the refrig off and leave the doors open for about 10-15 mins and try it again. if that works just reset temp controls a little lower..
