Question about Canon ZR50MC Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Hi, I'm trying to find a way to load the video footage I've taken on the mini DV tape into my computer so that I can edit it in ProShow Gold video/audio editing software. So far I have been unsuccessful at finding a way to do this. Please help. Thank you, Christine Corbin

Thank you but I have a few questions regarding this answer. The footage I want to retreive from my camera is on the mini tape so I guess I'll need to purchase the IEEE1394 cord but I'm not finding where I would insert this into the camera. From what I've seen online the IEEE1394 interface is a 4pin to 6pin connector. However, I see no 4pin receptacle on my camcorder.

The DV Camcorder is equipped with a DV port which permits both downloading as well as uploading of video and still images (stored on the video tape only) to a computer using an IEEE-1394 (firewire) interface. The ZR45MC, ZR50MC, ZR65MC, ZR70MC, Elura 40MC, Optura 200MC, and GL2 also have a USB port on the camcorder for downloading still images only from the MMC/SD card

the issue is probably related to the format the tape was recorded in. a z1u records in hi def (hdv) the dsr 45 is standard def ntsc. not compatable, play the tape in a z1 to recover

Possibly dirty head and/or dirty tape.Maybe even wear-out tape,too.
But the worst scenario would be faulty or damaged head, which would be not worth repair it.

HVX200 shot footage - viewing footage on consumer grade camera

You can only view hd footage on hd devices. so if you recorded hd footage onto a tape, you will not be able to view it on a standard def camera, ie the dvx100b. The footage should not be harmed. Now if you are trying to view via p2 card over the firewire, whole new scenario.

I want to copy video footage from the tape to the sd card.

Hi!
You cannot transfer the video from Mini-DV to SD card within your camera as your camcorder does not have this feature. If your purpose for finding this function is to transfer your footage to your computer, you may try using the firewire port in your camera to connect it to your pc.
If you need help with the firewire connection, feel free to post a follow up.
Hope this helps!
