unfortunately, I have no technical expertise with freezers! Any other advice? I don't even know how the controls work. Should I have it on 'superfreeze'? There is an immovable button I don't understand and what does the triangle with an exclamation mark (!) mean when lit up?

would it be worth defrosting again and then not using superfreeze?

Incidentally, the ambient temp. here at present is between 12 and 18C.

Thanks Daniel I'll try and review again tomorrow

    It now works perfectly!
I'm not clear why it wouldn't before. for 22 years I have not needed to manage it, but for some reason when my wife tried to start it up it would not refreeze properly.
I don't think we ever had a user manual & although i have tried to get one on line, I have so far failed.
    anyway thanks for your advice

If freezer is not cooling properly it can be due to a defrost timer, which is causing the freezer to go into defrost cycle. Usually it takes 45-60 minutes for freezer to come out of defrost cycle. If the timer turns bad then it will not come out of defrost cycle and can result in this kind of issues. It can also occur due to defrost thermostat, it allows current to pass through it at temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and prevents current from passing through it at 40 to 60 degrees. This is difficult to test, though, because it takes a prolonged, very-cold temperature to turn it on. The defrost thermostat is snapped onto the top portion of the evaporator. The thermostat sends temperature information to the processor. The defrost heater must be replaced when replacing the thermostat.

1. Remove the lower fan duct work from the evaporator cover.
2. Remove the 1/4-in. evaporator cover screws and remove the evaporator cover.
3. Disconnect the defrost thermostat wiring connector.
4. Remove the defrost thermostat from the evaporator.

Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

    Hi Geoffrey,
Let the freezer be unplugged and leave the door open for 4-6 hours. Prepare yourself, there could be water on the floor. If the issue persists then you would need to get the defrost relay or defrost heater checked/replaced. Hope this helps...

How do I change thermostat?

Look inside the cabinet for a black dial with numbers 1 to 9. Usually top left or right and at the rear. If it is a digital display, look for a 'set' button and arrows.

Should have looked first!

freezers do not normally go wrong too often so your going south is unusual.liebherr have given you a very good responce that some makers would not even dream of,i would recomend that you take up their offer as the chances of another problem are slim to zero...(in european law, it is you that has to prove that an appliance has a "inbuilt fault"to get anywhere.)

Freezer not freezing, or if it is lettuce etc in fridge freezes

With fridge freezers, there is usually a solenoid at the back that controls where the refrigerent goes. It consists of a sealed valve and a solenoid coil. It is possible that this has become open circuit so cannot direct refrigerant to the freezer section.
Another alternative problem may be the thermistor in the freezer section. This sensor will tell the control board the temperature in the freezer section. If it gets it wrong, then the freezer will overcool or not cool at all. Often a manufaturer will standardise on a part, so swapping the fridge and freezer thermistors around can identify that this is the fault - then just buy another 1.
If these tests don't work, you're looking at a new control board. Second hand ones may be available.
    Best of luck.
