Question about Sharp AF-S80FX Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Hi, I have an 8,000 BTU unit. The unit is about 5 years old. It was running fine, no problems at all. Then whan I went to turn it back on after a few days-nothing. No noise, no air, nothing. It just did not turn back on. Before this happeend it cooled, it reponded to degree changes all was fine. The green light button on the test and retest comes on, but there is not a sound from the unit itself. Its like you would hit a power button that was not plugged in (but it is). This problem occured about 1 month ago , I tried at that time to clean filter etc. and just tried again this weekend. I did clean the filter, keep checking plugs but I have no idea what else to do or if it's completely broken. Thank you so much for any advice. It is very miuch appreciated.

After changing or cleaning your Filter, you need to reset the A/C. Follow the procedures below:

  1. Disconnect the power plug from the power supply.
  2. Clean the air filter.
  3. Hold down the POWER ON/OFF pad of the unit's control panel and plug in the power plug to the power supply. Keep pressing the POWER ON/OFF pad until the unit emits a "BEEP" sound. (for approx. 5 seconds)
  4. Disconnect the power plug from the power supply and plug it in again.
  5. Start your air conditioner's operation.
If the A/C still doesn't start, try this:
  1. Disconnect the power plug from the power supply.
  2. Hold down the MODE pad of the unit's control panel and plug in the power plug to the power supply. Keep pressing the MODE pad until the unit emits a "BEEP" sound. (for approx. 3 seconds) The unit will start to operate.
  3. Stop the unit's operation by pressing POWER ON/OFF pad.
  4. Start your air conditioner's operation.
If your problem continues, contact 1-800-BE-SHARP (1-800-237-4277).

Air Conditioning broken - fan still works

Probably a control board failure. If the modes don't work and the fan auto/on works, I'd say the circuit board has failed. Does the fan turn on when cool is selected? If not, 99% sure it's the board. If it does, it's probably a compressor component issue. Window units are considered throw aways.

I have an older 8000 btu unit - i have no manual. its 98 outside - when i start up this unit , should i have it on hi- med - or lo ? if i run it too hard will i freeze it up?

If everything is clean and the unit is properly charged with freon then it should not freeze up and I would start it anywhere you want to as that just controls the fan speed. It's108 here. Best of luck and thank you.

Not blowing cold air anymore

Possibly dirty evaporator coil or condenser coil. Maybe dirty filters. Also could be low on refrigerant charge.

Runs for 2 min the must reset plug

Need more info. but in the meantime. if it is a brand new a/c why not plugging the unit into another outlet. Do not use any extesion cords cause it may blow the fuse. Also make sure that you are not using an outlet that is connected to a refrigerator. if it is an old a/c or a least 2 years then the condenser (back of the unit) is problably dirty. Run a garden hose behind it for a bout ten minutes while it is running. if it still shuts off you might have a bad compressor.

E1 error code on air conditioner

I called haier about this error code. E1 indicates that a button on the control panel or the reomote is stuck. I was instructed to unplug the unit and push each button at least 5 times, one at a time. Plug the unit back in, and this fixed my problem with error E1 and the unit works fine.

The problem is the pot(s) is too far from the heat. Jenn-air needs to make a burner cover that is closer to the burner for boiling water...
