You need to connect it to iTunes if you don't have a computer then until iOS 5.0 you can't set up an iPod without a computer

How do you restore a ipod touch 4g

The fourth generation iPod is identified as the iPod with the click wheel and color display, and also known as the iPod Photo. All models of the iPod 4G include the click wheel and full color display, making it easy to view album artwork and photos. Subsequent versions of the iPod also have video capabilities. If you are having trouble with your iPod 4G, there is a series of steps you can follow to try to fix the problem. Start by resetting the iPod (see Below). http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/photo/ If this doesn't do the trick, you may need to restore the iPod, which replaces potentially corrupt software components. Doing so will erase all the iPod's files, so you should make sure you have your files backed up in the iTunes Library.

Download and install the latest version of iTunes. Open the program. Connect your iPod to your computer using a USB cord. Select your iPod from the device list in iTunes once it appears. Click "Restore" on the "Summary" tab of the main screen. iTunes will prompt you to select from one or more restore options. Choose how you want to restore the iPod. The first part of the restore will begin. You'll see a progress bar on the screen. Leave the iPod connected to finish the restore, as iTunes prompts you to do. The iPod will now show an Apple logo and progress bar on its screen. Follow the prompts of the iTunes Setup Assistant when it appears onscreen. Enter a name for the iPod. Choose your syncing preferences. Reload your iPod files from the iTunes Library.

Ipod 4G nano shows 0 songs when disconnected, but shows all data when connected t iTunes. Please help.

If you have all the music from the Ipod on your computer, I recommend you do a factory reset of the Nano. You could have a corrupted audio file that is messing everything up or your hard drive could be failing.

My iPod classic (30GB) keeps showing "do not

Try holding down the menu/center button for at least 10-15 seconds, if that does not reset it try the center button and play/pause combo for the same time period (I used to have the same model as you, one of these 2 combos usually worked).

You can also try connecting your ipod to another computer with iTunes on it to see if its a software or hardware problem with your iPod. Or you can uninstall/reinstall iTunes and see what happens after a fresh install

and yea you can let the battery run out overnight if you want, but if you do get to fix it I'd say back up your music on the iPod through a program like iDump or something in the meantime

Dear sir, I have locked my ipod Model A1136 and i dont know the password. I have never change it. Does it got a specific code for a new product like Nokia phone 12345 for the first access. And if not what...

if your ipod docks onto itunes but is still locked when you disconnect it, you do NOT have to reset it! all you have to do is follow these next few steps.(this is done on a windows xp system)

Go to my computer>devices with removable storage>ipod(-random letter goes here-:) go to the top.

click the button that says Tools and go down to Folder Options and click it.

a new window will apear that has three tabs. the middle one says Veiw. click that.

in the veiw tab there will be a Advanced Settings box. under Hidden Files and Folders, click the dot that says "show hidden files and folders" next to it.

close the small window and click a shadey file called ipod controll. if you dont see this reset the page by clicking th backward and then forward button up in the top left hand side.

then click a folder that says device. in that folder you will see a file that says "_locked" and it should have a small size (i.e. 1-7kb).

delete this file and undock your ipod from the computer through itunes.

when it restarts it will most likely be unlocked. if not, proceed with the other way to unlock your ipod above.

best of luck. i repair the worst of ipod senarios, and i know how frustrating they can be.

IT NOT RESPONDING TO THE I TUNES

Try resetting Ipod first:

Reset an iPod:

picexporterror Toggle the Hold switch to on, then back to off (none of the red is showing).

picexporterror Press and hold down the Menu and Select buttons (as shown in the picture) for 6-10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

picexporterror For many problems, you may have to do this several times. The iPod may be hung up on several things so you have to tell it: "Reset that. Now reset this. Yes, reset that too" and etc.

Restore an iPod:

Warning: When you restore and iPod, you...

... delete everything on it (songs, pictures, movies, files, games, firmware, etc.) Hey! That means any stuff that's on the iPod, but not in the iTunes library, will be lost. After deleting everything, iTunes reloads the iPod software with a fresh copy (referred to as "factory settings").

Using iTunes

When the iPod is connected, select it in the Source list in iTunes. Under the Summary tab, there is a button named "Restore." Click it. Select the restore option you want then sit back. A progress bar will show you the status of the restore. When it's done, you'll see a message like "Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore." Now the iPod will show a progress bar. Do not disconnect during this part. When it's done, the iTunes Setup Assistant will prompt you to name and configure the iPod.

If that Put ipod in disk mode by toggle hold switch off then on and when apple logo appers hold action(middle button)and bottom button until a tick appers. Then connect to itunes.

My ipod is so screwed up PLEASE HELP

you can reset its password....but you'll lose all your data. Here's how...
  1. Verify you have iTunes 7.5 or later. Apple recommends using the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
  3. Power off the device (Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone or iPod touch to turn off.
  4. Press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to iPhone. When you reconnect the USB to iPhone, the device should then power on.

Note: If you see the message "Charging... Please Wait" or you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least 10 minutes to ensure the battery has some charge and then start with step 2 again.
  5. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo.
  6. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message:

If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, then disconnect the USB cable from iPhone and repeat steps 3-6.

My iPod touch says connect to iTunes but when I connect it to iTunes it cant open my iPod because of a password but I can't type it in because of the connect to iTunes screen. What do I Do?

Two choices:
Plug in your iPod
Go to "My Computer"
Go to your iPod's drive (F for me) Make sure you can see all hidden folders (If you aren't sure go to Tools, Folder Options, View Tab, and check Show) After that click iPod_Control Click the folder called "Device" And then change it from _locked, to _unlocked

Or
Follow these instructions to reset your iPod to its factory settings

My Computer and iTunes does not recognize my iPod

I think what needs to happen is you need to restore.

Hold down the sleep and home buttons until you see the apple logo. As soon as that comes up, let go of the sleep button, but keep the home button held down.

A little picture saying you need to plug your iPod in iTunes should appear after a couple seconds. Let go of home and plug your iPod into the computer now.

When iTunes says you need to restore, do so. It will take some time to restore the iPod after you have given iTunes the command to do so.

Get a snack, and a drink... You might be here for a little while.
