Question about Dryers

2 Answers

Hello there, I have a Kenmore "Elite" Dryer, 592-895070. Less than a year old. My wife was drying some cloths and she noticed a couple of sticky stains on the stainless steel drum. I rolled the drum counter-clockwise, thought I heard a bit of a thump. Reloaded the dryer, turned it on, all the lights come on, no error indication lights, but will not work. Any ideas ?? Thanks, Jim, Kelowna, BC, Canada

Safety First unplug Dryer. you may be in luck if your dryer has a belt trip on the motor, if it does then where the wires(plug) goes into the motor there are two small buttons one trips it the other resets it( this will click when reset) if not then hopefully its the belt......you will need to open up the dryer, remove lint screen and on the two corners up front there are tabs, now if you do not want to scratch the dryer with a light piece of cloth or rag wrap around putty knife or screwdriver and push in, then open top and look for the belt, it should be centered on the drum, more then likely it broke. if it did then you will have to take the front off, there is like two screws and then disconnect the door switch, lift up and out, the drum will come off, buy a new belt and route it like the diagram shows, make sure the lip of the drum is riding on the drum rollers on the backside, might as well check them and clean all the lint out since we have the dryer disassembled, Good Luck Tim:

Wrinkled clothes

My wife, who runs "dryer central", stops the dryer short of complete drying and hangs the clothes that are easily wrinkled.
You may also have the heat set too high, or the time set too long, causing the problem.
Try experimenting.
Be blessed.

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

check out this electric no heat tip...

Dryer is hot, clothes arnt getting dry. blower? less that 1 year old Kenmore

Remove the vent hose from the dryer and dry a load of clothes . If they dry , then dryer is pushed too far back , kinking vent hose , or the vent from the dryer to the outside is blocked somewhere . A dryer either heats or doesn't heat (except for maytag associated dryers ) in which the blower wheel could be stripped out . But Kenmores don't have blower problems .

Dries clothes but runs too long & clothes VERY hot

Fixable and possibly a warranty claim. The timer is bad. You will need to get behind the control panel and remove the timer and replace the timer. First I would call whoever it is that yall bought the dryer through and see how long your warranty is. Most of the warranties are only 1 year. But if you bought a extended warranty then you are covered. The part can be found at repairclinic.com

Dryer cuts off before clothes are dry.

Might be the thermal protector in the motor that is shutting down the dryer, if motor overheats this is what will happen. Make sure there is no lint build up around the motor, if not the motor is bad. does the dryer start right away after shutting off or do you have to wait? If you have to wait the motor is bad.

Clothes not drying

A couple of possibilities to check. First, is the lint trap empty? If so, then the symptoms point to hot air bypassing the drum. Look for broken or misaligned plastic ducting inside the dryer itself. Check the exhaust air for moisture, as that is a better indicator than temperature. Don't forget that towels hold an enormous amount of water, & can be extremely long in drying, especially if not spun enough.
