Either its the kill switch( the red bar you pull) is not breaking contact and grounding out the magneto/coil or the magneto/coil is bad. Tim

If you are not getting any reaction from starting fluid the spark plug must be at fault. Two cycle engines are pretty ******* plugs.

2009 vulcan 1700 won't start. ran a week ago. has half tank of gas.

It turns over, with no start. It will either be fuel or ignition.
I understand from your description this machine has been sitting for some time. If the fuel is over a year old, drain it and flush the tank and carburetor. There is a lot of residue that occurs from evaporated fuel, mostly varnish.
Check the ignition by pulling a spark plug wire and visually verify the spark to the frame.
Remove and clean and set the spark plugs and re-torque.

Maybe the rope pull start is stuck? Remove shroud and see if you can rotate the flywheel by hand. If it won't move then the crankshaft may be stuck on a broken part, such as the governor gear or camshaft that has broken off.

Murray 10/30 riding mower has spark but not firing, with a puffing sound out the air filter when trying to start it.

Gavin, the symptoms indicate that the intake valve is stuck open, it could be that the exhaust is also stuck, but normally when an engine sets up, only one stem corrodes and gets stuck. It matters little though which one is stuck, you will still need to have a valve job.

Hello i have a 14.5 hp murray riding mower well when u take the spark plugout the motor cranks over just fine but when u put the spark plug back the motor will only hurn a half turn can u plz help me

You might have interferance with the piston, is the spark plug is too long? If it is the same as original, then the flywheel key may be sheered and causing the spark to be out of time and firing before reaching full compression. \
Other than that, a weak battery or starter could be insufficient to overcome the compression and allow it to start.
To test this, put a jumper or charger on the battery, then by hand rotate the engine backwards until it gets to hard to turn by hand, this will be on the exhaust stroke. When you try to start from this position, there may be enough momentum to overcome a weak starting system. (Mine has the exact same problem)

it has to be ignition coil or gas feed ckeck coil by removeing spark plug leave coil wire connected turn mower over see if you have spark if so it is in fuel delivery if not check and be sure ground is releasing on the flywheel brake if it is then check fuel filter if ok rebuild and clean carburator.

Murray riding mower won't starter, new solenoid, new spark plug and trying start it from the start turn over but won't start and try from the solenoid still no go.

You need to pull the spark plug out, connect the spark plug wire and ground the plug to the motor and see if you have spark. If you have spark (bright blue) then it is a fuel problem. A yellow spark is and indicator of a coil issue.

What spark plug should be used for a Murray Quantum XNP 6.5hp mow

Home Depot has the plug you need for briggs 6.5hp engines. Don't worry about it being a Murray. Buy a Briggs 6.5hp plug.
