Can you get me a diagram on electrical hookup?

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service technician.

I do not know if you have a 3 wire or 4 wire connection. For a 3 wire connection you need 15 AMPS at the breaker box. For a 4 wire connection you need 30 AMPS at the breaker box.

Three wire hookup. Center wire goes to N, the other two wires are hot. It makes not difference witch of these two wires go to L1 or L2. The ground goes to the cabinet.

Check the voltage - With a volt meter between L1 & N = 220V, L2 & N = 220V, L1 & L2 = 240. These readings are general. You may get something like 210V instead of 200V

I need to wire up a 3 phase compresser motor, 9 wires wired 480, to change to 240 volt hookup. right now it is wired 3 motor wires to each hot, no nameplate or wiring diagram.

Please verify the existing connections to determine if they fit the "High Voltage" configuration listed below. If they do (and they should), the "Low Voltage" configuration below is then correct for 240.

Does it matter wrong connection (switching cables) on a single phase electric mottor

Most larger 120 V motors have the option to be wired for 240 V, and as a result need half the current - which translates to lower installtion costs do to a wire size the can be reduced.

These motors have simple terminals like L1, L2 and two or more similar to 1, 2, 3, 4 or A, B, etc. that can be connected that permits selecting rotation direction, speed(s) and voltages.

Nearly all these motors will require that L1 and L2 terminals be connected to the power, whether it is a hot and neutral for a 120 v supply, or hot and hot as would be the case for a 240 v supply. It would then require the correct connection / jumper connection of the other terminals to tell the motor which voltage is being supplied. An incorrect combination here could be disastrous. Either way, L1 & L2 is power in. Consult the label on the motor to correct wiring - and if by chance one of the L1 or L2 terminals is specified for neutral, it should be connected that way.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Im hooking my pool pump up to a 220 and I dont know what wires go where. On the motor there is a A and B and a L1 and L2. What do I put my brown wire on and what does the white one go on. Can u help me...

There should be a diagram on the side of the motor showing you where to put the brown and white for 110/220 volt operation. Most new motors of this size are shipped strapped for 220v. The two hot wires will go to L1 and L2 and it doesn't matter which wire goes to which lug. For 220v you will usually have 2 black or 2 red wires and a green ground wire. If it is 110v supply, you will usually have a white and a black wire, and a green for ground. Hope this helps. Since you said you are hooking to 220v the brown and white should be on the correct lugs if this is a new motor.

I have a 2.5h 2 speed motor with 3 wires Black, Red, Blue & Green (Ground) My question is how do know what ones are L1 & L2 and N?

That model number is listed as a 230v motor (no neutral) The wires should be attached to terminals marked L1, L2 and A . L1 is high speed, L2 is common and A is low speed. Check the name plate for wiring information.

The L1 and L2 are the load terminals. Connect the black wires to the L1 and L2 and the green one to the green colored screw.

depending on your local electrical code:and I see that the unit is 240 Volts A.C., then RED=Power/Black=POWER(L1 & L2)/WHITE="N"Neutral/and GREEN=SAFETY GROUND,on the new unit, then use from the wall power BLACK = L1 and White= L2. then on the unit RED=L1 and BLACK=L2(either way you hook these 2 up there isn't a polarity issue on these 2 wires) on the units hook-up/then use the BARE supply wire as neutral and tie BOTH WHITE and GREEN from the unit together to this BARE wire

Problems wiring Flotec sprinkler pump

L1- L2 doesn't care if blk or red. Make sure there is 220vac (240vac) on the supply wires. If there is there is something amiss with the pump. Eric
